EMQ’s With KILL CITY
Hi everyone! Welcome to another EMQs interview, this time with Ecuadorian Heavy Metallers, Kill City. Huge thanks to their Bass Guitarist, Andrés Miranda, for taking part.
What is your name, what do you play and can you tell us a little bit about the history of the band?
My name is Andrés Miranda, and I play bass guitar in Kill City. The band was formed in 2019 after Chemel Neme (vocals) left his previous band. Xavier Diab (guitar) called me to join the band. I went to a rehearsal, and we immediately had good chemistry making music. Since then, we haven’t stopped composing and having a good time doing it.
How did you come up with your band name?
After sorting through various band names, we agreed on calling our band “Kill City.” This name has the phonetic sound of the city we live in: Guayaquil in Spanish sounds like “Guaya-KILL.” So we liked it and chose it.
What Country / Region are you from and what is the Metal / Rock scene like there?
We are all from Guayaquil, Ecuador. There are a lot of bands making good Metal music and other genres. Guayaquil has many talented musicians and artists.
What is your latest release? (Album, EP, Single, Video)
In 2024, we released our third album called “Darker Days”. After that, we released several singles. The most recent ones are: ‘Lift the Shadows’, ‘All The Dues’, ‘No Freedom’, and ‘Farewell’. All these songs will be included in the fourth album we expect to release at the beginning of 2026.
Who have been your greatest influences?
We all love Rock and Heavy Metal music, but have different influences. I have learned a lot from listening to Megadeth, Dream Theater, Ghost, and many more. I think the other band members would say that their influences include Helloween, The Beatles, Def Leppard, etc.
What first got you into music?
Well, my older brother bought an electric guitar. Eventually, he quit playing, and I learned how to play it and never stopped.
If you could collaborate with a current band or musician who would it be?
Rammstein, Megadeth, Metallica, Foo Fighters
If you could play any festival in the world, which would you choose and why?
Rock in Rio, because it is such a big event with a great audience.
What’s the weirdest gift you have ever received from a fan?
Before Kill City, I was playing in another band called “Los Intrépidos.” We played Tropical Pop-Rock music, and at a concert, a fan threw a bra at me. That was a great gift to remember!
If you had one message for your fans, what would it be?
Learn how to master not taking things personally. It is something I like to think about, and it gives me peace of mind.
If you could bring one rock star back from the dead, who would it be?
Mmm, at first I thought of John Lennon, but then I thought of Kurt Cobain. I know either of them would be delivering great music if they were alive.
What do you enjoy the most about being a musician? And what do you hate?
Making music is something that feeds my soul, so that’s priceless to me. I love rehearsing and playing live with my band. I hate not having enough time to do it.
If you could change one thing about the music industry, what would it be?
I would give Rock music more presence in the mainstream.
Name one of your all-time favourite albums?
“Rust in Peace” – Megadeth
What’s best? Vinyl, Cassettes, CDs, or Downloads?
I vote for downloads. Nothing beats having the song you want right on your phone with just one click.
What’s the best gig that you have played to date?
With my previous band, Los Intrépidos, we opened for a Mexican band called Reik in Guayaquil. I think it was about 10,000 people.
If you weren’t a musician, what else would you be doing?
I would be working full-time in a big enterprise, crunching numbers all day long.
Which five people would you invite to a dinner party?
My bros from Kill City… we have a great time every time.
What’s next for the band?
Well, we love creating new songs. New songs are developed continuously, so we want to keep recording them and delivering new Kill City albums.
What Social Media / Website links do you use to get your music out to people?
Spotify: Kill City | Spotify
Facebook: Killcity | Facebook
Youtube: Kill City – YouTube
Instagram: Kill City (@killcityecuador) • Instagram photos and videos
There’s a long-standing food-based debate here in the UK. And we’d like your help. So… A Jaffa cake – is it a cake or a biscuit? Discuss!
I’m hoping to try that Jaffa cake, and I’ll make my decision.
Until then, I’ll eat bolón de verde and encebollado here in Guayaquil.
Thank you for your time. Is there anything else that you would like to add?
It’s always a pleasure to talk to you, and thank you for listening to our music!
