EMQs with FALLING BELOW

EMQs with FALLING BELOW

Hi everyone! Welcome to another EMQs interview, this time with UK Alt-Metal band, Falling Below. Huge thanks to Alex and Christo for taking part.

What is your name, what do you play and can you tell us a little bit about the history of the band?

Hey thanks for having us, I’m Alex, I’m the frontman and lyricist.

Hi, I’m Christo, I play guitar and write songs alongside Alex.

As a band, we’ve been together since 2023. Me and Alex wrote the debut EP and recorded it with Rich Moss (Stone Broken), comprising the best songs we’d demoed over the time we knew each other.

That was released at the back end of 2023, which gained us some good traction and led to a few sold out shows in Nottingham and Wolverhampton, which was a blast.

More recently we’ve been heavy into working on new material, with a new 5-track EP on the way in February 2026 and our first headline show straight after.

How did you come up with your band name?

During the time we were writing our first EP, we were struggling to find the right name – we kept throwing ideas around, but it was hard to get something to stick. Then one day, Christo was listening to the song ‘Heavy Heart’ by ‘Periphery’ and the line “I’m falling below…” really stood out to him. He pitched it to us all, and it really fit the vibe of our music and the core theming we were going for. – Alex

What Country / Region are you from and what is the Metal / Rock scene like there?

We hail from Nottingham, England. The scene is alive and well, plenty of rock clubs and shows going on. Nottingham is home to many great venues which we’d love to grace one day, such as Rescue Rooms, The Bodega, and of course, the famous ‘Rock City’ – Alex

What is your latest release? (Album, EP, Single, Video)

Our latest release ‘Pieces’ dropped on the 26th of September, on all streaming platforms worldwide with a music video on our youtube channel, filmed with Shaun at Loki films.  It’s taken from our upcoming EP ‘Holding Out For Hope’ which comes out on February 20th 2026.  With another 2 singles between now and then! – Alex

Who have been your greatest influences?

My riff and chorus writing is inspired by Mark Tremonti (Alter Bridge), but a lot of my lead playing and use of more ‘out there’ chords comes from prog bands like Dream Theater, Opeth and Periphery. Then throw in some smooth jazz and classic rock for good measure, and those are my influences. But I know the rest of the guys have very different influences too, so it depends who you ask! – Christo

What first got you into music?

Good question! I’ve always been into music, even as a young kid. My mum raised me on quite a range, from Red Hot Chili Peppers to Eminem. Then I got introduced to Guns ‘N’ Roses, Slipknot, and other rock/metal bands – and I’ve gone deeper down that rabbit hole ever since. – Christo

If you could collaborate with a current band or musician who would it be?

We’ve chatted about it quite a lot as a band to be fair, and one band that always comes up is Caskets. I love their sound and they’re doing really well for themselves, so it would be cool to do a track with them later down the line. – Christo

If you could play any festival in the world, which would you choose and why?

I think I can speak for the whole band when I say, we’d love to play Download Festival.
I’ve been attending as a punter since 2015, so it would be a dream! – Alex

What’s the weirdest gift you have ever received from a fan?

As of yet, we haven’t received any gifts from fans! But if anyone wants to be the first, come along to our headline show at Rough Trade, Nottingham on Feb 21st 2026. We’ll gladly accept (most) gifts. – Christo

If you had one message for your fans, what would it be?

Keep on pushing, you never know what’s around the corner and what you can achieve if you set a goal and keep on going when it gets tough. – Alex

If you could bring one rock star back from the dead, who would it be?

I’d bring back Ozzy. He paved the way for so many of us, and even now, his influence is timeless. If there’s someone who deserves to be immortalised in rock, it’s him. – Alex

What do you enjoy the most about being a musician? And what do you hate?

I love creating new ideas, recording them, and bringing them to life. It’s super satisfying to go from nothing to a full song that sounds just the way you wanted it to. I also love playing LIVE shows – the energy and feeling from those is unreal. As for what I hate? Being critical of my own ideas. Most of the time when I write songs, a part of me always keeps picking them apart and pointing out things that are repetitive, boring or bad. It’s really annoying – but I suppose it’s helped me create some awesome stuff too. – Christo

If you could change one thing about the music industry, what would it be?

Right now, I think the biggest issue is how DSP’s aren’t taking action to stop AI generated music on their platforms, and in many cases, promoting it. It’s hard enough in 2025 for your music to be heard and now we’ve got machines that can create a song faster than I can blink. I think that it needs addressing. – Alex

Name one of your all-time favourite albums?

My favourite album has got to be “Fortress” by Alter Bridge. For me, it’s got the perfect blend of heavy-hitting Alt-Metal, soaring choruses, more experimental songs and multiple 6+ minute epics with tons of great solos. It never gets old for me. – Christo

What’s best? Vinyl, Cassettes, CDs, or Downloads?

I personally love vinyl, you get to appreciate the artwork, the lyrics, and the effort the bands have put into creating their work. Having a physical product to collect is key for me.  – Alex

What’s the best gig that you have played to date?

It has to be our debut show! That is a night I won’t forget – so many people came out to see us and the whole room was moving and singing along, it was a special night for sure.  – Alex

If you weren’t a musician, what else would you be doing?

There is nothing I would rather do, but if I had to choose another avenue, it would probably be something regarding journalism. – Alex

Which five people would you invite to a dinner party?

Mmmm that’s a tough one. I’d probably just invite my favourite guitarists and use it as an excuse to learn from them with an after-dinner jam. So that’d be Mark Tremonti (Alter Bridge), John Petrucci (Dream Theater), Jesse Cash (ERRA), Misha Mansoor (Periphery) and Synyster Gates (Avenged Sevenfold). – Christo

What’s next for the band?

Over the coming months, we’ll be releasing more singles from our upcoming EP, “Holding Out For Hope”, which drops on February 20th 2026. Then we’re celebrating the launch with our show at Rough Trade, Nottingham, the day after. That’s what we’re focusing on right now, and we’re planning to line up even more LIVE dates over the next year and beyond, too. – Christo

Time for a very British question now. As an alternative to the humble sandwich, is the correct name for a round piece of bread common in the UK either a Bap, a Barm (or Barm Cake), a Batch, a Bun, a Cob, a Muffin, a Roll, or a Tea Cake?

You’re trying to start a civil war with this question! I’ll die on this hill — it’s a COB, and that’s final!  – Alex

Thank you for your time. Is there anything else that you would like to add?

Would just like to say thank you again for talking with us and letting us share a little about ourselves. 2026 is shaping up to be an exciting year and we can’t wait to share new music and get out on the road! – Alex
