EMQ’s With Lily Löwe

Hi everyone. Welcome to another EMQs interview, this time with Norwegian Rock Project Lily Löwe. Huge thanks to Lily for taking part.

What is your name, what do you play and can you tell us a little bit about the history of the band?

My name is Lily, and I´m the vocalist of Lily Löwe. I released the project in 2022 during Norway´s Eurovision – Melodi Grand Prix with the song ‘Bad Baby’, written by Trond Holter, Victoria Land and myself. The same year the debut album “LÖWE” was released.

How did you come up with your band name?

I wanted to have a name that was similar to my birth name, and both feminine and powerful. Lily as the flower, and Löwe which means lion in German.

What Country / Region are you from and what is the Metal / Rock scene like there?

We are from Norway. Norway has a legendary metal scene, especially black metal known for its raw sound, dark aesthetics, and global influence. We have some strong live venues, festivals, and modern rock/metal acts, but pop music is the biggest genre in Norway, dominating charts and radio, often blended with electronic and indie influences.

What is your latest release? (Album, EP, Single, Video)

Our latest single is ‘Love Like This’ from our upcoming sophomore album “Beautiful Disaster”.

Who have been your greatest influences?

It´s a mix of different bands and artists from different genres, like Marilyn Manson, Rammstein and Lady Gaga.

What first got you into music?

I always loved to sing, and music has always been a big part of my life. It´s not one thing that got me into music, it’s just always been a part of me.

If you could collaborate with a current band or musician who would it be?

Marilyn Manson or Till Lindemann.

If you could play any festival in the world, which would you choose and why?

Maybe Hellfest or Vans Warped Tour – I always wanted to play there.

What’s the weirdest gift you have ever received from a fan?

I honestly only got sweet gifts, nothing weird.

If you had one message for your fans, what would it be?

Thank you for listening to our music. It means the world to me.

If you could bring one rock star back from the dead, who would it be?

Freddie Mercury.

What do you enjoy the most about being a musician? And what do you hate?

I love being creative and writing music. What I don´t like is how unpredictable it is, and how hard it can be sometimes.

If you could change one thing about the music industry, what would it be?

Let the rock and metal genre have more focus. Bring back the time when rock was dominating the music scene.

Name one of your all-time favourite albums?

Falling In Reverse – Popular Monster

What’s best? Vinyl, Cassettes, CD’s or Downloads?

Vinyl might be the best, but I love to be able to have music on my phone, put on my headset, and be able to listen to it anywhere.

If you weren’t a musician, what else would you be doing?

Probably been working full-time as a costume and makeup designer, which I still do.

What’s next for the band?

Playing live and making more music. We want to grow bigger and continue to work for it to happen.

What Social Media / Website links do you use to get your music out to people?

Time for a very British question now. As an alternative to the humble sandwich, is the correct name for a round piece of bread common in the UK, either a Bap, a Barm (or Barm Cake), a Batch, a Bun, a Cob, a Muffin, a Roll or a Tea Cake?

I believe all of them are correct? Just depends on where you are in the UK.

Thank you for your time. Is there anything else that you would like to add?

Thank you! Our new album “Beautiful Disaster” is out February 6th!
