Has festival season begun yet? For some, yes. For some, the thought of opening a cold one in the middle of a field with like-minded musos is still just a distant memory. For others, the season will begin on March 21st at The Bread Shed, Manchester, when the good folk at Rancid Offal promotion bring us Goremageddon in all its slamming and brutal glory! The memories of Skinless, Wormed, and Defeated Sanity all laying waste to Rebellion last summer still remain fresh in the mind’s eye at last year’s sold out Offal Fest, alongside the scenes caused by Cytotoxin, Pyrexia, and of course last year’s Goremageddon headline act Viscera Fest.
When you think of it, Rancid Offal have done some pretty amazing things for the Extreme Metal scene in Manchester! Things are only getting better as well, as Goremageddon has proven to be far too big for the Star And Garter now, and will take place in the much larger Bread Shed. Alongside this venue upgrade comes a line-up that warrants it. Here’s a very brief overview of the day’s festivities…
After opening last year’s Offal Fest pre-show, Mincer return to Manchester and will likely take an early slot at this year’s Goremageddon. Though they’re not here to make up the numbers! Anybody who was at last year’s Offal Fest can attest to the sheer chaotic energy they bring to the stage and aim to do the same again this year! Speaking of chaotic, Horsebastard have galloped their way onto the line up! One only need check out their live show at The Mash House, Edinburgh (YouTube is your friend) to get a glimpse of the pace and unhinged rage they bring to the stage!
Although Rancid Offal events often bring some of the finest underground UK acts to their events, the team have really demonstrated their ambition this time by bringing in a series of seasoned international acts to the Bread Shed this March! Mysteryxmeat and Fupa Goddess land on UK soil for the very first time as part of the Goregrinding the UK tour package, spearheaded by Belgian grind legends Brutal Sphincter who return to the island.
If you’ve somehow survived this onslaught and have some energy left, the day’s headliner will surely finish you off! Hailing from Taiwan, Fatuous Rump have carved a solid reputation for their live show which blends technically refined Death Metal with a ferocious all out Grindcore assault which pulls no punches! This rare live show comes to the UK for the very first time, which again demonstrates the promoter’s combined ambition and dedication to their craft by navigating what must be an obscene amount of red tape and paperwork to bring in such a band!
After parties and a full blown pre-show assure that those who want to make the most of the day will be satiated. The venue itself is situated within a very short distance from Manchester Oxford Road train station, with the nearest tram stop being just a bit further. Alongside bus routes that run next to the venue, public transport shouldn’t be a barrier. A full day of Grindcore can be a lot even for the most sadistic of souls and bodies. Fortunately, attendees can break off into the bar next door to escape the chaos while numerous fast food outlets can be found literally round the corner. This ensures that you can take care of your essential needs whilst taking care of your needs for slamming brutality!
