What is your name, what do you play, and can you tell us a little bit about the history of the band?

Hello everyone, my name is Carsten, and I am the singer of Scraper. The band was founded in 2016, so we can celebrate our 10th anniversary this year. Our debut album Hunger Within, was released in 2020. In 2021, there was a cast change on the drums, Ralf replaced Dani, and in 2022, Basti replaced Lönni on the second guitar. After these changes, intensive work took place on the second album, Infinite Journey

How did you come up with your band name?

The band name is certainly characterised by the fact that we come from a region of Germany that was strongly influenced by mining. Even if we are not connected to many Ruhrpott Thrashbands, we are connected to our home region.

What Country / Region are you from and what is the Metal / Rock scene like there?

As already mentioned, we come from the “Ruhrpott”. The Ruhr region once stood for the numerous mining plants and the metal industry. Musically, this region is characterised above all by well-known bands such as Kreator and Sodom, and the sound of numerous other Thrash Metal bands, which have shaped this unmistakable sound of the Ruhrpott Thrash. Essen is worth mentioning as a city with a very strong scene and clubs that offer performance opportunities. In addition, but also surrounding cities such as Oberhausen.

What is your latest release? 

Currently, we have released our second album with the title Infinite Journey on 08.05.2026. It is a concept album which is divided into three chapters. Each chapter contains 3 songs that support the story of the album in terms of the best and are atmospheric.

Who have been your greatest influences?

We are all musically characterised differently, so it can be said that we represent a hybrid of Thrash/Death/Progressive Metal and even some Black Metal. These are actually influences that everyone lets flow into our songs and that make our complexity.

What first got you into music?

Musically, I was influenced in my childhood by the musical taste of my older brother, who was very close to Queen, Meat Loaf, and German rock musicians. But German punk also played a role. From this developed very quickly and intensely my preference for music of the harder gait and ZZ Top and Iron Maiden initially characterised my musical career.

If you could collaborate with a current band or musician, who would it be?

Speaking for the whole band, a dream will soon come true, at least to be able to share the stage with a band that really adores a large part of the band and has shaped them. To be able to share the stage with the unique Voivod soon is a great honour. Otherwise, it is difficult to name due to numerous influences.

If you could play at any festival in the world, which would you choose and why?

This is really complicated, because there are so many countless incredible festivals that have so much to offer. A common festival from the band’s perspective is certainly the annual Rock Hard Festival in Gelsenkirchen. From my personal point of view, however, also the Hellfest in France is incredibly versatile and serves different metal genres.

What’s the weirdest gift you have ever received from a fan?

There was actually nothing there yet. But the biggest gift is actually that fans come to our concerts and thus support us in our work.

If you had one message for your fans, what would it be?

Big thanks for the continued support and patience for the long wait for the second album

If you could bring one rock star back from the dead, who would it be?

Cliff Burton and Jeff Hanneman for their musical work and the unmistakable music they created, and Lemmy, because he was an absolutely unique personality.

What do you enjoy the most about being a musician? And what do you hate?

To live out what constitutes our common passion with the boys in the band, namely, to make music together. That there are apparently people out there who also like it, that gives energy to hold on to it and work on new music. To offer it live on stage. What I don’t like at all is waiting until it starts 😂 to go on stage. But that’s high-level whining.

If you could change one thing about the music industry, what would it be?

Clearly, a higher share of funds through streaming music.

What’s best? Vinyl, Cassettes, CDs, or Downloads?

Without ifs and buts, vinyl!

What’s the best gig that you have played to date?

Our latest Release Show for the New Album!

This was emotionally high-level and something that no one can take from us anymore.

If you weren’t a musician, what else would you be doing?

Actually unthinkable not to be a musician, but I think something creative would definitely be.

Which five people would you invite to a dinner party?

Of course, my fabulous 4 comrades from the band and our label boss Monte.

What’s next for the band?

Rehearsals for the show where we can open for the great Voivod, and of course work on new songs.
