Ever Metal – EMQ’s With Lariyah of DieveNoire

What is your name, what do you play and can you tell us a little bit about the history of the band?

My name is Lariyah Perrin. I sing for DieveNoire. This is a relatively new project, which started as a solo idea and evolved into a full band. So far, we have released one album in September 2025, “The Story of a Gunslinger”.

How did you come up with your band name?

DieveNoire is a mash-up of two words. Dieve- comes from the name of my hometown. Before the borders changed after World War II, it was a German town called Dievenov. After it became a Polish territory, the name changed to Dziwnów. Noire is, of course, a French word. During dark nights as a young girl, I used to walk along the Baltic Sea beach, finding myself in that blackness. I was always fascinated by the history of Europe, and French history was one we learned a lot about in school. Noire as a word always had the essence of the meaning, hence I connected the name of my hometown with it.

 

What Country / Region are you from and what is the Metal / Rock scene like there?

I come from the north-west corner of Poland, right by the German border. From my own local scene, there are not many bands that became big in the Polish scene, aside from, for example, a gothic band called Moonlight. However, Poland nowadays, and for a great amount of time, has had a lot of world-known bands respected in the metal scene. I would say Polish black metal and death metal are by far the best of this genre. There are quite a few modern folk bands which are very well known, including Percival. Fans of the Witcher series might be familiar with their music.

 

What is your latest release? (Album, EP, Single, Video)

We have just released “IDGAF” song with a video from live footage of one of our performances. This song is on our album “The Story of a Gunslinger,” which debuted in September 2025.

Who have been your greatest influences?

For me as a singer, I always loved the titans of Heavy Metal and 70s/80s rock. From Dio, through Rob Halford, Freddie Mercury, and so on. I think I’m an old soul, and what I listen to appears to be just stuck mostly in the times when I was a kid and before my time overall.

What first got you into music?

A friend of mine during my high school years invited me to sing for his industrial gothic project. That was the first time I ever had my vocal recorded, without really knowing much about the industry.

If you could collaborate with a current band or musician who would it be?

It would be Farida Lemouchi. I absolutely love The Devil’s Blood and her haunting voice. There is something about it that goes through my soul with every note she sings. Unfortunately, the band will never perform again after her brother’s passing, but she will forever be an icon.

If you could play any festival in the world, which would you choose and why?

I’m honestly not entirely sure, as with DieveNoire we have entered a rather unknown field to us. Coming from the metal world into mainstream music is still something I have to research more and find out more about it, but we have a good start; on July 18th we are playing RockFest in Cadott, Wisconsin, and that’s something we are really looking forward to.

What’s the weirdest gift you have ever received from a fan?

I have yet to receive it haha. For now, the gifts were always thoughtful and really treasured.

If you had one message for your fans, what would it be?

Live as if today was the last day of your life. Tomorrow is never granted.

If you could bring one rock star back from the dead, who would it be?

Only one? Damn. Most of my heroes are gone. It would be a toss-up between Peter Steele, Die, Lemmy, and quite a few more. I would say Peter, just to hear Type O Negative live.

What do you enjoy the most about being a musician? And what do you hate?

What I love is to be able to bring out the melodies that my mind creates at all times and being able to share them with people. That’s the grand goal of any musician. What I hate is that there is never enough time to bring it all and fast. Must be the ADHD 😉

If you could change one thing about the music industry, what would it be?

Starting with always increasing ticket prices, heh. Also, the ‘pay to play’ in my opinion was never right for any band, no matter how small.

Name one of your all-time favourite albums?

Hmmm… There are many. I’m going to go with Sephiroth – Draconian Poetry. But since there are many genres I enjoy, there would be also Blackmore’s Rainbow, Destroyer 666 – Wildfire, Dissection – Rainkaos, W.A.S.P. – Crimson Idol, and many more.

What’s best? Vinyl, Cassettes, CD’s or Downloads?

Vinyls all the way. The sound is impeccable. Of course I have my nostalgia with a radio, cassettes and pencils, but I do not miss that headache.

What’s the best gig that you have played to date?

Between the biggest I’ve played to best sound I’ve played, the crowds are completely different. I would say the best response is always at festivals; for instance, Knotfest or Rocklahoma were awesome to play, but with age I pay more attention to the sound of a venue, and sometimes those smaller capacity venues have way more magnificent sounds that make the audience hear and receive better of what you give them to experience.

If you weren’t a musician, what else would you be doing?

The same as what I do aside from music: tattooing. I am very fortunate to do what I love.

Which five people would you invite to a dinner party?

My bandmates and their ladies. I am really lucky to call them my best friends.

What’s next for the band?

Working on new music and booking more shows. The debut album was a concept that was highly worked on with our producer, Jakob Herrmann, who took on this project as technically a hidden member. This was before Lothar was able to fully devour his work with us, and we were already in the middle of recording. I am really excited to hear how the sound will evolve with full involvement of every member from the start. With Lothar on lead guitar, Paul on bass, Josh on rhythm guitar, and Aaron on drums, I already know the sophomore album will be much stronger.

Time for a very British question now. As an alternative to the humble sandwich, is the correct name for a round piece of bread common in the UK either a Bap, a Barm (or Barm Cake), a Batch, a Bun a Cob, a Muffin, a Roll or a Tea Cake

I have never heard this term before haha ! I will go with a Bun a Cob, because it sounds the funniest.
