EMQs with Trip The Wire
EMQs with Trip The Wire
Hi everyone! Welcome to another EMQs interview, this time with USA Hard Rock band, Trip The Wire. Huge thanks to their lead vocalist, Eve Clarke, for taking part.
What is your name, what do you play and can you tell us a little bit about the history of the band?
Eve Clarke. I sing lead vocals and play rhythm guitar. Johnny and I were working on a Skid Row tribute band and talked about branching out and doing some original songs together. With perfect timing, in June of 2020, Dave sent me a message saying that he’d been writing a bunch, and he wanted to email me a few songs to potentially collaborate on. After writing lyrics and tracking vocals at home for “Never Enough”, we discovered what a great writing team we were. So we decided to bring Johnny on board, find a drummer and start jamming in person. Our first drummer, Eddy Rhoads of Syztem7, had to leave to take care of family after 9 months with the band. That’s when Rico stepped in as a “temporary” drummer. We’re happy to say, he stayed on permanently.
How did you come up with your band name?
Lyrics that caught my attention from the song ‘World on Fire’ by Slash feat. Myles Kennedy and The Conspirators.
What Country/Region are you from and what is the Metal/Rock scene like there?
We formed in Seattle. It’s rising up from the ashes of COVID and coming back to life. For as long as I can recall it’s always been a very tightly knit, down-to-earth rock scene of comradery; a fellowship of encouragement.
What is your latest release?
“Hurricane” single released 3/10/23.
“Hurricane” video released 4/5/23.
“Anti-Love” single release set for 5/3/23.
Self-titled album CD release set for 5/5/23.
Who have been your greatest influences?
Aerosmith, Skid Row, Extreme, Bon Jovi, Prince, Metallica, Michael Jackson and Whitney Houston.
What first got you into music?
As a music lover, everyone in my family loves music, and all different types. I heard everything from Sinatra to Zeppelin, Kenny Rogers to Donna Summer, Mozart to Pink Floyd growing up. As a performer, I’d have to say Michael Jackson and Prince kinda lit that spark. I’d credit Bon Jovi for making me want to be in a rock band, and Nuno Bettencourt for making me want to heavily pursue the electric guitar.
If you could collaborate with a current band or musician who would it be?
The ultimate dream would be with Steven Tyler and Joe Perry. However, I feel like Duff McKagan and I could come up with some really cool stuff. Myles Kennedy and Slash are right in my wheelhouse as well.
If you had one message for your fans, what would it be?
Don’t let any tell you to “have something to fall back on”. If you want to play music for a living, DO IT. Put every single ounce of energy and all of your resources into it, NOW.
If you could bring one rock star back from the dead, who would it be?
Chris Cornell.
What do you enjoy the most about being a musician? And what do you hate?
I love inspiring people and moving them emotionally. I don’t hate anything about it.
If you could change one thing about the music industry, what would it be?
I wish we could actually make a living doing what we do rather than giving it away pretty much for free.
Name one of your all-time favourite albums?
“Appetite For Destruction”.
What’s best? Vinyl, Cassettes, CD’s or Downloads?
Vinyl definitely sounds the best. I have a record player (and cassette player) at home and still buy new vinyl. CDs and digital are convenient in the car, but nothing sounds like vinyl.
What’s the best gig that you have played to date?
As a band, I really enjoyed SHEDFEST IV in July of 2021. We played early, so the crowd wasn’t very thick yet, but there’s just something about playing outdoors with the wind in your hair. As a solo artist, definitely the album release for “Awake” at the High Dive in Seattle.
If you weren’t a musician, what else would you be doing?
I own my own dog walking business and do freelance photography. I also enjoy graphic design and marketing.
Which five people would you invite to a dinner party?
My close friends and family. But if you mean celebrities.. Robert Downey, Jr., Bill Burr, Adam Sandler, Drew Barrymore and Jimmy Fallon sound like a night of belly laughs.
What’s next for the band?
The release of the debut album and trying to reach as many hard rock/metal lovers around the world as possible.
What Social Media/Website links do you use to get your music out to people?
All of them can be found at our Link Tree:
Jaffa Cakes? Are they a cake or a biscuit?
Being from the US, I had to look them up. Looks like a cookie or a “biscuit” I guess Europeans would say. Also, I’m hungry now.
Thank you for your time.
