Here we are, back in a new whole year! As always, it is time to make tons of plans to fail in all of them. It’s also time to look to the past to check what we could have done better in 2023. My first regret about last year was not putting this amazing Australian band on my top 10 because I just discovered them right now. When I had them to review. So let’s start this review trying to understand why a new band on their first album could leave this good impression. Happy new year to everyone.

Well, I decided to first explain why I think they were one of the best of 2023 and it is because you just need to hear one song to feel how powerful they are. I am not saying it after hearing the first song in the album ‘Vagabond’, considering that opening songs are made to offer this good impression. Again, the lazy writer here put the album to play on Deezer, but I forgot to turn off the random option and my first audition had all tracks out of order. Despite my lack of intelligence, this fact was good to really feel that no matter which track you pick to check them, you will enjoy them on the first hearing.

My second impression was a doubt about their style. They call themselves a Melodic Death Metal band. The influence of Death (band) is clear but if I haven’t read their press release before, I would easily think I’m in front of a very technical Thrash Metal band, but I believe it is another reason that made me immediately love their music. They are too good to be jailed in just one genre. By the way, the first track I heard was ‘Mass Starvation’ and it is one of the best songs to describe what I am saying. It’s a pure brutal Thrash, with all the typical riffs we are used to hearing on it, but with killer fast double bass in some parts.

The melodic side appears on ‘Beyond Atrocity’ and ‘Suffocate Me’, but in a way that brings a sad feeling over the themes they are talking about. I confess that these tracks, with these melodies in this way I’ve mentioned, were the ones that really reminded me of something like some depressive (or dark atmosphere)  Swedish Melodic Death Metal bands like Dark Tranquility, for example. But they don’t flee from their identity and the aggressiveness will be always present here.

Running against all patterns of debut albums sounding quite confusing when a young band released it, Besomora showed that they really know what they want for their music. The blend of different elements is perfectly balanced. For me, the energy and the excitement that the band can offer along the entire “Delusional Monster” is the highlight. I have no doubts that (VERY SOON) we will see them performing on the great festivals all around the world. I just hope to see them touring in Brazil too.
