Drift Into Black is a Modern Metal band based on New Jersey that have just released their new album, “Voices Beneath the Rubble”, filled with midtempo similar to Ghost (2020-era) and an interesting mixture of Doom Metal soaked with Grunge, along with Epic Metal elements.
And the mixture of sonorities delivered on “Voices Beneath the Rubble” felt good to me, most of the time, but I think that listening to the whole album would turn the listeners a little bored with Drift Into Black’s musical proposal. And the album’s production didn’t help to draw soundscapes that are required on that kind of conceptual album.
“Voices Beneath the Rubble” has a bunch of good songs such as ‘Turmoil’, that sounds like Alice in Chains meets Ghost which worked very well, conducted with epic grandiosity. Talking about Ghost’s influences on such songs as ‘Last Hope’ and ‘The Great Machine’ among other songs are way too much fixed in the same formula. And it’s incredible how much the vocals seem like Tobias Forge.
The truth is that Drift Into Black’s “Voices Beneath the Rubble” is an interesting concept album and I am sure that the band is going in the right direction to find their own identity, in the future.
