EMQ’s With Chiral
Hi everyone! Welcome to another EMQs interview, this time with Irish Multi-genre Metal band, Chiral. Huge thanks to their Guitarist, Spooky, for taking part.
What is your name, what do you play and can you tell us a little bit about the history of the band?
Spooky, I play guitars and a very, very tiny Norwegian pan whistle that frequency can only be heard by Alfresian bats.
How did you come up with your band name?
Breaking Bad.
What Country / Region are you from and what is the Metal / Rock scene like there?
We’re from Ireland, there are loads of great bands here but it’s very hard to escape this island.
What is your latest release?
In The Company Of Wolves.
Who have been your greatest influences?
Nine Inch Nails, Alice in Chains, Guns ‘n’ roses, Carpenter Brut.
What first got you into music?
Learning to play a shit load of Green Day songs when I was 11.
If you could collaborate with a current band or musician who would it be?
Puscifer.
If you could play any festival in the world, which would you choose and why?
Download. Just because so many of the bands I love have played those stages through the years.
What’s the weirdest gift you have ever received from a fan?
A can of beans where each individual bean had a protection spell put on it for each day of the year. 365 magical beans.
If you had one message for your fans, what would it be?
Go listen to our shit. Please and thank you.
If you could bring one rock star back from the dead, who would it be?
Tupac.
What do you enjoy the most about being a musician? And what do you hate?
Playing music is incredibly fun but having to wear 50 different hats from designer, social media admin, promo, videographer etc just to keep on top of things these days is mentally exhausting.
If you could change one thing about the music industry, what would it be?
Youtube, Spotify and other outlets to pay more per stream.
Name one of your all-time favourite albums?
My Chemical Romance – “The Black Parade”.
What’s best? Vinyl, Cassettes, CD’s or Downloads?
Vinyl cause the big art is pretty.
What’s the best gig that you have played to date?
Playing this weird concoction of alternative spooky jazz metal to a bunch of ska fans in Germany 3 weeks ago was pretty fun.
If you weren’t a musician, what else would you be doing?
A magician.
Which five people would you invite to a dinner party?
Gandhi’s ghost, Maynard James Keenan, George Lucas, Rob Zombie, Wednesday 13.
What’s next for the band?
Intercontinental domination.
Time for a very British question now. As an alternative to the humble sandwich, is the correct name for a round piece of bread common in the UK either a Bap, a Barm (or Barm Cake), a Batch, a Bun a Cob, a Muffin, a Roll or a Tea Cake?
Bun.
Thank you for your time. Is there anything else that you would like to add?
Eat cheese and save the bees.
