EMQs with KILLERKORP

Hi everyone! Welcome to another EMQs interview, this time with UK Extreme Metal/ Hardcore band, Killerkorp. Huge thanks to their Guitarist, Jakey, for taking part.

What is your name, what do you play and can you tell us a little bit about the history of the band?

Hi, I’m Jakey, I play lead guitar for Killerkorp, the band was an idea of mine and the vocalists from when we were very young rocking out to old slipknot videos. We formed the band in 2017 with our best mates and took to the stage in 2018. Released our debut EP Pain in 2019 on a low budget and full-on attitude. Covid came along and slowed us down. As soon as we could we got to the jam room and reimagined our sound releasing our 2021 single Deathday, after a long 3 years of gigging and jamming we recorded our upcoming EP “Vices” with a total need to make an impact on the UK metal scene.

How did you come up with your band name?

Ben (vocals) came up with the name while at his old job, Kill the corporation, we then shortened it and added a ‘K’ for more edge. Thus Killerkorp was born.

What Country / Region are you from and what is the Metal / Rock scene like there?

We are from Ipswich, Suffolk, in the United Kingdom. The home of Cradle of Filth and Extreme Noise Terror. Our scene is a hungry monster, shout out to Celestial Sanctuary and Berenice for savage riffs.

What is your latest release? (Album, EP, Single, Video)

Our latest release is our Single from our upcoming EP with the same name, “Vices” which we released on 6/12/24. The EP came out on 13/12/24.

Who have been your greatest influences?

My personal influence is watching bands like Knocked Loose come from small bands, to massive, with pure dedication and hard work.

What first got you into music?

Watching Kerrang and Scuzz back in the day and listening to my older brothers listening to tunes.

If you could collaborate with a current band or musician who would it be?

Would love to do a collab with any of the underground bands that we have met over our time. Love to get our pal Patty from Existentialist on a track.

If you could play any festival in the world, which would you choose and why?

Would love to play Wacken festival, it’s one of the biggest and best and would be awesome to play alongside some of our heroes in the metal scene.

What’s the weirdest gift you have ever received from a fan?

Nothing…yet.

If you had one message for your fans, what would it be?

Thank you for supporting the Korp and making our expression mean something.

If you could bring one rock star back from the dead, who would it be?

Bring back Joey Jordison for the rad blasts.

What do you enjoy the most about being a musician? And what do you hate?

Love playing the music we write but hate not knowing what people truly think of the tunes you’ve written. But I guess it’s all part of the fun.

If you could change one thing about the music industry, what would it be?

Make it fairer for those who struggle financially. We are a DIY band but it would be awesome to be able to access the things you need with ease, and without having to know someone in the industry.

Name one of your all-time favourite albums?

“IOWA” by Slipknot

What’s best? Vinyl, Cassettes, CD’s or Downloads?

For audio, vinyl is beautiful. Looks cool too!

What’s the best gig that you have played to date?

Best gig we’ve played to date was opening for Raised by Owls in Norwich. So many people and so much energy in the room.

If you weren’t a musician, what else would you be doing?

I really do not know, learning something else like Coding or something creative.

Which five people would you invite to a dinner party?

All of Knocked Loose for a cook out!

What’s next for the band?

Write more tunes for people to mosh to!

What Social Media / Website links do you use to get your music out to people?

Go to www.linktr.ee/killerkorpuk for all the links to our tunes and socials. Time for a very British question now. As an alternative to the humble sandwich, is the correct name for a round piece of bread common in the UK either a Bap, a Barm (or Barm Cake), a Batch, a Bun, a Cob, a Muffin, a Roll, or a Tea Cake?

It’s a Bap to me!

Thank you for your time. Is there anything else that you would like to add?

Listen to Killerkorp and keep supporting the scene! Huge thank you to Ever Metal for giving us a platform, we appreciate everything you do.
