EMQ’s With TALES OF BLOOD

Hi everyone! Welcome to another EMQs interview, this time with French Death Metaller, Tales of Blood. Huge thanks to their Vocalist, Sam, for taking part.

What is your name, what do you play and can you tell us a little bit about the history of the band?

We are from Paris, and we’ve been playing old school Death Metal since 1998. We’ve issued 2 mini cds (“Range of gore” and “Horrors of the flesh”) and one album (“Stuffing the graveyard”) so far. The second album is about to be released this week!

Over these years we opened for bands like: Morbid Angel, Napalm Death, Sinister, Avulsed, Hail of Bullets, Debauchery….

The current line up is: Célia, Jean Michel, Sylvain (guitars), Yann (Bass), Jerôme (drums) and me.

How did you come up with your band name?

Fabrice (aka Fabos), drummer of the original line up, found the band’s name after an overdose of alcohol and LSD, and probably inspired by the “Morbid tales” of Celtic Frost.

What Country / Region are you from and what is the Metal / Rock scene like there?

Only Mutilated (rip) and Massacra (rip) rules!!

What is your latest release? (Album, EP, Single, Video)

When you will read these infamous lines, our new album “Breath of Repugnance” was issued in December on CD version and is coming soon on vinyl!

Who have been your greatest influences?

Basically the very first (and best) wave of 90s Death Metal bands (Bolt Thrower, Grave, Incantation, Obituary, Baphomet, Master, Cannibal Corpse, Entombed… and so many more).

What first got you into music?

Emotions, energy, sharing, way of life… I’ve been listening to music since I was a little shit! I started “Metal” with ACDC, and then British Heavy Metal, Speed, Thrash Metal until finally reaching Death Metal.

If you could collaborate with a current band or musician who would it be?

The musicians of my band are the best ones on every side! It’s so rare that I can’t imagine anyone else!

If you could play any festival in the world, which would you choose and why?

Any one! Except fascist ones!

What’s the weirdest gift you have ever received from a fan?

I’m still waiting for the bloody head of Emmanuel Macron to play football with.

If you had one message for your fans, what would it be?

I personally have a lot of messages to share. But I play in a Death Metal band, which is not destined to deliver a message (yet you can read between the lines) but just brutal music!!

If you could bring one rock star back from the dead, who would it be?

Bon Scott!

What do you enjoy the most about being a musician? And what do you hate?

I love to compose and play music with my fellows. I hate to face line up problems! And bad concert’s conditions.

If you could change one thing about the music industry, what would it be?

To make Tales of Blood millionaires at once!!… Well anything that makes it a capitalist industry, and as such, every obstacle it creates to access to music, practise it and live from it (except for a minority).

Name one of your all-time favourite albums?

Altars of madness”!!!

What’s best? Vinyl, Cassettes, CDs or Downloads?

For me, if you really want to immerse in the universe of a band, only real stuffs: CDs, Vinyls, and cassettes!

What’s the best gig that you have played to date?

Opening for Morbid Angel in Paris in 2005!

If you weren’t a musician, what else would you be doing?

Working inspector! My current job! Unfortunately I’m not a professional musician!

Which five people would you invite to a dinner party?

My band’s fellows!…They are 5!

What’s next for the band?

Planning shows and promo (thanks for your help!) to support our new album, and working hard on the next one, which is well under way (7 songs up to now).

What Social Media / Website links do you use to get your music out to people?

We are on Facebook, Instagram… You can listen or buy our putrid stuffs on our bandcamp: https://talesofblood.bandcamp.com/

There’s a long-standing food-based debate here in the UK. And we’d like your help. So… A Jaffa cake – is it a cake or a biscuit? Discuss!

Cake or biscuit, the important thing is to be a vegan one, that means without animal exploitation!

Thank you for your time. Is there anything else that you would like to add?

To your readers: Let’s support our band, meet us and booze together! Thanks for your interview and promo Beth, and Ever Metal!!!
