EMQ’s With SUPERSONIDO

Hi everyone! Welcome to another EMQs interview, this time with Brazilian Hard Rock/ Metal band, Supersonido. Huge thanks to their guitarist, Daniel Gringo, for taking part.

What is your name, what do you play and can you tell us a little bit about the history of the band?

My name is DANIEL MUSIELLO, but most people know me as DANIEL GRINGO. I play the guitar in SUPERSONIDO, a Hard Rock/Metal band formed in 2015, in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Our sound blends Hard Rock with Heavy Metal and Stoner Metal influences. We’ve released two full-length albums (“Supersonido” in 2016 and “In Tenebris Lux” in 2024), an EP (“Dia de Caos”), and several singles. How did you come up with your band name?

“SUPERSONIDO” means “super sound”, and it reflects the intensity and the power of our music. We wanted a name that felt explosive and powerful, something that represents the energy of our music.

What Country / Region are you from and what is the Metal / Rock scene like there?

We’re from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The local Rock and Metal scene is rich and diverse, full of incredible underground bands, even though it often lacks the visibility it deserves. But there’s a real sense of passion and resistance, a community that refuses to let rock die

What is your latest release? (Album, EP, Single, Video)

We recently released our second album, “In Tenebris Lux” (June, 2024), which is available on all major streaming platforms. Alongside the album, we also launched the powerful single called “Você Sabe Quem Eu Sou” (January, 2025) — a historic collaboration with NORC featuring more than 30 musicians from 17 different bands. It’s been described by the press as the “We Are The World” of the Rio de Janeiro underground, and is considered the largest independent rock collab ever made in our city. It was an amazing experience recording a song with so many musicians and friends. It was a celebration of unity, creativity, and the raw power of the underground.

Who have been your greatest influences?

Personally, my biggest influences are The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, Alice In Chains, Sepultura, Black Sabbath and KISS, that mix of melody, heaviness and attitude shaped my identity as a guitarist and songwriter. As a band, SUPERSONIDO has influence from iconic names like Motörhead, Judas Priest, Black Label Society, Alice In Chains and Black Sabbath. We like to blend classic Metal energy with modern edge, always keeping the emotion and rawness at the core of our music

What first got you into music?

I started to like music when I listened to the vinyl records my father left behind after he divorced my mother. It was a bag with albums by the Beatles, the Rolling Stones, Simon & Garfunkel and Elton John. Interestingly, my father wasn’t a Rocker guy, but he had those records. Maybe that’s why he left them behind. From then on, I started listening to rock music every day and decided to learn to play the guitar and, later, the electric guitar. I had a Beatles songbook that I always had with me, and I would play it on the guitar all the time. In a short while, I was writing my own songs.

If you could collaborate with a current band or musician who would it be?

I’d love to collaborate with Andreas Kisser, Frejat, Nando Reis, Sepultura, Cachorro Grande, Barão Vermelho — the list goes on. Internationally, Paul McCartney, Dave Grohl, Judas Priest, Alice in Chains, and Zakk Wylde are dream collabs.

If you could play any festival in the world, which would you choose and why?

Wacken Open Air, Rock in Rio, and Hellfest. These are the ultimate Rock and Metal festivals, in my opinion, and I’d love to take our music to those global stages.

What’s the weirdest gift you have ever received from a fan?

A bracelet made out of old guitar strings, a half-eaten mint candy and a bottle of homemade mead. But the one that really blew my mind was a fan who tattooed a Supersonido lyric (“Não Importa”) on her ribcage.

If you had one message for your fans, what would it be?

Thank you for all the support, every stream, every scream at a gig, every kind word. Keep supporting real music — loud, raw, and honest. We play from the heart, and we’re in this together.

If you could bring one rock star back from the dead, who would it be?

John Lennon

What do you enjoy the most about being a musician? And what do you hate?

I love the creative process, it’s essential for me, like a therapy. Music is how I process life, emotions. The hardest part is the instability and lack of recognition artists often face in Brazil. But I wouldn’t trade this life for anything.

If you could change one thing about the music industry, what would it be?

I’d shift the focus back to artistic value instead of algorithms and numbers. Music is more than content for 60-second clips. Music is emotional and a cultural force .

Name one of your all-time favourite albums?

Revolver” and “Abbey Road”, by The Beatles, “The Dark Side Of The Moon”, by Pink Floyd, “Are You Experienced?”, by Jimi Hendrix, “Nevermind”, by Nirvana. These albums were there for me during some of the most unforgettable moments in my life.

What’s best? Vinyl, Cassettes, CD’s or Downloads?

I use all of them! I have a deep emotional connection with physical formats, especially vinyl and CDs, but streaming is incredible for access and reach.

What’s the best gig that you have played to date?

Personally, the best gig that I ever did was in Porão do Rock festival, in Brasília (DF), with Monstros do Ula Ula, in 2018. The crowd was around 20,000 people, it was really intense, the biggest audience I’ve ever played for.  In Supersonido, one of our best shows was opening for Matanza in Duque de Caxias (RJ). The crowd was wild, intense, and fully connected. It was pure energy.

If you weren’t a musician, what else would you be doing?

I’m actually also a lawyer. I run a rehearsal and recording studio (Estúdio Túnel), in Copacabana. So if I weren’t playing music, I’d still be involved in it — producing and recording. I also love photography.

Which five people would you invite to a dinner party?

Paul McCartney, John Lennon, Freddie Mercury, Bob Marley and David Bowie. Can you imagine the music, all the stories and the vibe? That dinner would be legendary!

What’s next for the band?

We’re promoting “In Tenebris Lux” album with new video clips and gigs, and writing songs for a new album coming in 2026. Always moving forward.

Time for a very British question now. As an alternative to the humble sandwich, is the correct name for a round piece of bread common in the UK either a Bap, a Barm (or Barm Cake), a Batch, a Bun, a Cob, a Muffin, a Roll or a Tea Cake.

I’ll go with “Bap.” Sounds like it has Rock ‘n’ Roll attitude.

Thank you for your time. Is there anything else that you would like to add?
