EMQs With K.C.C.

Hi everyone! Welcome to another EMQs interview, this time with Brazilian Crossover band K.C.C. Huge thanks to the bassist David Cadillo for taking part.

What is your name, what do you play and can you tell us a little bit about the history of the band?

My name is David Cadillo, I’m the band’s bassist and I joined K.C.C. in the simplest way I could, which was seeing a cap with this acronym/band in the singer’s Instagram stories and sending a message asking if the band needed musicians. So, I got into the K.C.C.

How did you come up with your band name?

The band’s name is the abbreviation of the syllables Ka-cha-ça* (written with K) and was the idea of our vocalist Miguel Paulo and our guitarist Victor Portella.

*Cachaça is a Brazilian distilled alcoholic beverage made from fermented sugarcane juice, similar to rum but specifically originating from Brazil.

What Country / Region are you from and what is the Metal / Rock scene like there?

We are from Brasília (DF) and the scene in the region is extremely present and strong even today, having a beautiful history full of bands since the 80s, having one of our biggest inspirations, the band D.F.C.

What is your latest release? (Album, EP, Single, Video)

Our last release was a live show called “Cyco Thrash live” which is available on our Bandcamp (K.C.C. Kachaça crossover) and the video version on our Youtube. However, we had already released a demo before called ” Cirrose Musical demo tape” which is both on Bandcamp and Youtube.

Who have been your greatest influences?

Our biggest influence on our style navigates between bands from the international scene and the national scene. We can say some such as: Suicidal tendencies, D.R.I., S.O.D. and Cryptic slaughter. From Brazil: Ratos de Porão, D.F.C., Possuído Pelo Cão, Lowlife and Ameaça Cigana.

What first got you into music?

Music came from my family. I’ve always listened to rock/metal at home with my parents. The main bands that brought me to music were Iron Maiden and Deep Purple.

If you could collaborate with a current band or musician who would it be?

Dreaming big, I would like to play with the Suicidal tendencies for sure! In the national scene there are bands that I would also like Lowlife D.F.C. and P.U.S.

If you could play any festival in the world, which would you choose and why?

From my real dream, the festival of my dreams would be Wacken in Germany. I always follow videos and see many people in the open air, moshing and spinning, in addition to the many badass bands that play at these events. It would be wonderful.

What’s the weirdest gift you have ever received from a fan?

The only thing I received from a fan was a little paper ball at our first show. It was funny.

If you had one message for your fans, what would it be?

I would like to thank from the bottom of my heart everyone who supports our work. We are a very recent band and seeing that we already have some fans makes me happier and motivated to make more songs and to expand the band.

If you could bring one rock star back from the dead, who would it be?

Cliff Burton. My first and biggest inspiration on bass, but the loss of Ozzy Osbourne still hurts a lot.

What do you enjoy the most about being a musician? And what do you hate?

The good thing about being a musician is that you can express yourself through music, be able to say what you are feeling and have your creative process. The stage experience is incredible too, you can play and see people wanting to listen to your band and go to the shows is magical.

If you could change one thing about the music industry, what would it be?

I would like the music industry to give more support to independent bands. In the current Rock/Metal scene, it is very difficult for an underground band to grow to the extent of mainstream bands in the current scenario. So even with rock down, when compared to other genres in the industry, it is extremely important to support the underground.

Name one of your all-time favourite albums?

Angra’s “Temple of Shadows” (totally unlikely for a crossover bassist hahaha).

What’s best? Vinyl, Cassettes, CDs or Downloads?

Physical media. In any case. CD, Vinyl, K7 tape. However, downloads and streaming are more practical daily. I really like both, but physical media comes first.

What’s the best gig that you have played to date?

Our best technical level and show presence was our penultimate. The Kachaça Fest (our first event of our own). However, I still have a lot of affection, and I really liked our first show.

If you weren’t a musician, what else would you be doing?

If I were not a musician I would be in the area of visual arts. I love to draw and I even designed the logo and other artwork of the band.

Which five people would you invite to a dinner party?

I would invite the 3 members of K.C.C and Lucca and Eduardo from the band Lowlife.

What’s next for the band?

At the moment, we are starting to compose new songs to make some release for next year, which could be an EP or an Album.

What Social Media / Website links do you use to get your music out to people?

We promote our band through our Instagram, Youtube and Bandcamp.

There’s a long-standing food-based debate here in the UK. And we’d like your help. So… A Jaffa cake – is it a cake or a biscuit? Discuss!

Jaffa cakes more closely resemble cookies…

Thank you for your time. Is there anything else that you would like to add?

Thank you so much for reaching out to us and we were very happy to share some of our recent history.

David Oliveira Cadillo (Bassist of K.C.C).
