EMQ’s with DRAMALOVE

Hi Everyone. Welcome to our new EMQ’s interview with Brighton, UK based Alternative Rock band Dramalove! Huge thanks to them for taking part!
What is your name, what do you play and can you tell us a little bit about the history of the band?
My name is Diego and I play guitar and vocals. This band started out many years ago from an original idea of me and my twin brother Riccardo. We grew up between our older brothers and father musicians, so I’m guessing this was kind of a natural process. Originally we were called No Gravity, then in 2008 we found out another couple of bands had the same name so we decided to change it.
How did you come up with your band name?
We’ve been thinking about it for a whole long night, we came up with a hundred names and then we decided to go with this one that sounds pretty cool in our opinion, it’s also a contrast between two opposite forces, the good and the evil, the light and the dark.
What country are you from and what is the Metal/Rock scene like there?
Brighton, UK
What is your latest release? (Album, EP, Single or Video)
Our latest release is the single ‘Lady Macbeth’, available on every digital store.
Who have been your greatest influences?
I think we’re safe to say Muse, Placebo, Smashing Pumpkins and anything that’s rock’n’roll, with a sci-fi attitude towards life.
What first got you into music?
The music video of ‘Bliss’ from Muse!
If you could collaborate with a current band or musician who would it be?
Good question, I’d say Deftones, Foals or Biffy Clyro, very hardworking bands.
If you could play any festival in the world, which would you choose and why?
That would be Glastonbury. I mean it’s a dream coming true for any musicians and we’ve seen our favourite bands playing there!
What’s the weirdest gift you have ever received from a fan?
Many years ago a fan created a little doll with my perfect resemblances and that was a bit scary. And very cool at the same time!
If you had one message for your fans, what would it be?
Never give up on your dreams!
If you could bring one Metal/Rock star back from the dead, who would it be?
Michael Jackson. He was a true genius and his work still resonates in our actual music and life.
What do you enjoy the most about being a musician? And what do you hate?
The best thing is probably going on tour. You get to meet new people and visit new places. Also the recording process is fun but if I was to choose I’d say touring, yeah. The worst thing is the 99 “no” you get before getting a “yes”!
If you could change one thing about the music industry, what would it be?
I am still not 100% happy about the music streaming system. When Metallica complained at the beginning of the Napster era, no one gave a fuck and now here we are, you have to stream millions to see a few pennies. So yeah in order to answer your question I would probably need a time machine shipped through Amazon tomorrow.
Name one of your all-time favourite albums?
Muse – “Origin of Symmetry!
Guns N’ Roses – “Use Your Illusion 1”
Placebo – “Without You I’m Nothing”
Metallica – “The Black Album”
Deftones – “Around The Fur”
What’s best? Vinyl, Cassettes, CD’s or Downloads?
Definitely CD’s! No trace of doubt.
What’s the best gig that you have played to date?
At an Italian rock festival called Colonia Sonora, we played in front of a massive sweaty crowd!
If you weren’t a musician, what else would you be doing?
In an optimistic scenario I think I might be teaching martial arts to kids. Or maybe I would be a very very bad person, stealing cars and doing all that sort of naughty stuff.
Which five people would you invite to a dinner party?
The Pope, Marilyn Manson, Alexandria-Ocasio Cortez, Bono Vox & Donald Trump!
What’s next for the band?
We’re really looking forward to January 2020 when we’ll hit the recording studio with James Sanger in France, he’s the man behind the success of Keane and many many great tracks from Madonna, U2, Dido, Lene Marlin etc.
What Social Media/Website links do you use to get your music out to people?
Mainly;
https://www.facebook.com/dramalove/
https://www.instagram.com/instadramalove/
Jaffa Cakes! Are they a cake or a biscuits
Jaffa cakes are soft and tender biscuits pretending to be cakes. We all strive to be the best version of ourselves so it’s fine.
Thank you for your time. Is there anything else that you would like to add?
You’re welcome. Follow the light and never look back!
