EMQ’s with WARLOCK A.D.

Hi everyone! Welcome to our new EMQ’s interview with Kingdom Of Mercia based Comedy Hard Rock/Heavy Metal band Warlock A.D. Huge thanks to vocalist ‘The Warlock’ for taking part.

What is your name, what do you play, and can you tell us a little bit about the history of the band?

I have been known by many names. Tripod, The Big Cheese, Gareth… But most know me as The Warlock. I do the big sing. The band was formed in 2019AD after I was released from my eternal prison and raised my fellow bandmates from the dead. We were just fortunate that there were 4 other musically inclined humans that were also left to rot in the surrounding dirt.

How did you come up with your band name?

We decided to initially call ourselves simply “WarlocK” with a capital K at the end, but we were informed there was already a band called Warlock with a lower-case K. So, we added “A.D.” To our moniker as a sign of our lasting skid mark on history.

What Country/Region are you from and what is the Metal/Rock scene like there?

We hail from The Kingdom of Mercia. Specifically, Stoke-On-Trent. The Metal scene in our area is BOOMING. You have Vulgore, Hellfekted, Tides of Ruin, Living Monstrosity, Underking just to name a few. We are fortunate to have been welcomed into such a loving community with open legs.

What is your latest release? (Album, EP, Single, Video)

Our latest release is a five track Extended Play known as “Rise!”. It is made up of our first five original tracks detailing our rise to power, a great battle with a sinister Essex based seabeast and our admiration for Polish Pop Culture hit, The Witcher. The artwork for this was illustrated by the animator KLN (aka Ballbots) who has previously created work for Ninja Sex Party.

Who have been your greatest influences?

Footprints In The Custard (their guitar player with the mankini has a thrilling bulge), The Darkness, Ninja Sex Party, Dio, Rainbow, Elton John, ‘Arry’s mother, Iron Maiden and Guns N’ Roses to name but a few!

What first got you into music?

While I enjoyed the musings of a hearty tavern choir in a former life, my mind was opened to heavy metal as I passed what you call a “raydeo”… There was a man’s voice emanating from this box wailing about Faeries and Boots and I became enthralled.

If you could collaborate with a current band or musician who would it be?

Personally, I would love to go on a world tour with The Darkness. I really feel that their energy and pomp match ours perfectly.

If you could play any festival in the world, which would you choose and why?

The sacred grounds of Bloodstock, of course.

What’s the weirdest gift you have ever received from a fan?

One fan offered to allow me the opportunity to insert my hand inside of them and use them as a sort of large, fleshy muppet. Another also gave a handful of coins.

If you had one message for your fans, what would it be?

Always clean yourself up before rolling over and going to sleep.

If you could bring one rock star back from the dead, who would it be?

Ronnie James Dio.

What do you enjoy the most about being a musician? And what do you hate?

I enjoy the opportunity to explore creatively and engage with an entire room of people with a single vocal line. I do, however, hate the constant attention from male and female fans clamouring to touch my bandmates’ bits.

If you could change one thing about the music industry, what would it be?

I would abolish the biased prejudice of what “can and can’t” be said on radio. How is it that, a fairly well-known British band can say “she only comes when she’s on top” on the BBC, yet I am not allowed to talk about my engorged testical?

Name one of your all-time favourite albums?

“Goodbye Yellow Brick Road” by Elton John.

What’s best? Vinyl, Cassettes, CD’s or Downloads?

I prefer, for convenience, streaming services… HOWEVER, sonically I prefer vinyl… But picture this! You download a rip of a CD containing audio files of vinyl albums recorded onto tape…I just blew your mind, didn’t I?

What’s the best gig that you have played to date?

The best gig we have played to date was our very first live outing in December 2019. We played roughly, the atmosphere was chaotic and there were technical issues all over… But plough me we had a laugh.

If you weren’t a musician, what else would you be doing?

Probably conjuring demons from the planes of the nether in an attempt to rule earth. That or work in Sainsburys.

Which five people would you invite to a dinner party?

The Bard, Caesar, Dread Pirate ‘Arry the Red, Horace the Alchemist and my Dear, dear Mother.

What’s next for the band?

Once the 2020 plague has up and left, we plan to perform an unfathomable amount of shows to help bolster our ranks before we march on the music overlords.

What Social Media/Website links do you use to get your music out to people?

We use, in no particular order, YouTube, Facebook, twitter, Instagram, Pornhub and our official websites

www.allmylinks.com/warlock-a-d-band-uk

Oh, and they really do have a link for Pornhub (Rick)

Jaffa Cakes! Are they a cake or a biscuit?

I believe, in my heart of hearts, that they are a biscuit trapped in a cake’s body.

Thank you for your time. Is there anything else that you would like to add?

I love you.
