Right now, I seem to be craving the 80’s metal sound and once again California’s Haunt have come to my rescue with their latest offering “Beautiful Destruction”.

Recorded, mixed, and mastered by guitarist and front man Trevor William Church, and released through his label Church Recordings, “Beautiful Distraction” took on new life during the COVID-19 pandemic as Church let fans interact and help finish multiple forgotten songs. He says…

“Beautiful Distraction was a different album to do than my previous albums. I let the fans interact with me on old songs that I had left in the dust. We polished them up through Facebook Live, and this album was born.”

The album opens up with the title track. Lyrically this is a ballad but contains riffs and solos galore –  the midway point, for example, being my favourite of the entire album.

‘In Our Dreams’ would not be out of place on an early Ozzy solo album, this is followed by the incredibly catchy ‘Fortune’s Wheel’ which, subsequently, leads into my personal highlight of the album ‘Face Of Danger’.

Haunt like to play fast and take it to a new level with ‘Sea Of Dreams’. It’s a song that really helps blow the cobwebs off in the morning and get you started for the day ahead and the following ‘Keeping Watch’ compliments it perfectly. Unfortunately, I couldn’t really get into ‘Imaginary Borders’ & ‘A Fools Paradise’, which is a shame because ‘Hearts On Fire’ (not a Hammerfall cover) is fantastic.

The album closes with ‘It’s In My Hands’ which, if I’m perfectly honest, I’ve found quite inspirational and the lyrics have really resonated with me, so although I may have struggled with a few of the tracks this still has me excited for the next release.
