EMQ’s With COLLAPSE THE SKY

EMQ’s With COLLAPSE THE SKY
Hello everyone. Welcome to another EMQs interview, this time with UK Metalcore band Collapse The Sky. Huge thanks to lead vocalist, Lee, for taking part.
What is your name, what do you play, and can you tell us a little bit about the history of the band?
Hi, my name is Lee and I am the lead vocalist for Collapse The Sky. The band formed in 2016 and quickly became finalists in Bloodstock’s ‘Metal to The Masses’ competition in the same year, played a variety of different shows, gained a tonne of live experience and released two full length studio albums, “Seven Eyes” (2016) and “Consumed” (2018).
How did you come up with your band name?
We had a lot of discussions about it. I know Collapse The Sky was in the conversation quite early on. We kept circling back to it and eventually decided on the name, but that wasn’t until after our first album was recorded!
What Country/Region are you from and what is the Metal/Rock scene like there?
We are from Norwich, UK. The scene here has a great mix of genres, real talented musicians and good people. The city offers a wide choice of venues for bands to play at which is great. It gives young and aspiring musicians the opportunity to get out there and experience a live setting.
What is your latest release? (Album, EP, Single, Video)
We recently released the official music video for our brand new single ‘White Flags’ from our upcoming album, due for release on 4th February.
Who have been your greatest influences?
Slipknot, Parkway Drive, The Ghost Inside, Kenny Rogers… there’s too many to choose from in all honesty!
What first got you into music?
I can’t pin-point exactly when but I have always been into music. I grew up listening to bands on Scuzz and Kerrang! and found new bands to share with my friends like most kids in those days I guess.
If you could collaborate with a current band or musician who would it be?
Corey Taylor. That would be the dream.
If you could play any festival in the world, which would you choose and why?
Download Festival. Hands down. Not only is it one of the biggest Rock/Metal festivals on the planet, but I have been going to the festival for the best part of 10 years. It’s a special place.
What’s the weirdest gift you have ever received from a fan?
I have never received a gift from a fan!
If you had one message for your fans, what would it be?
Just a big thank you, for all the support. It means more than you think and we appreciate you all. Go and watch our new single on YouTube, get yourselves down to a live show and we will see you there!
If you could bring one rock star back from the dead, who would it be?
Hmm, that’s a tough question. If I had to choose ONE then I would have to say Chester Bennington.
What do you enjoy the most about being a musician? And what do you hate?
The live shows man. It’s all about the live shows for me. I love the buzz you get from them! The thing I hate is when you hear about hard working bands/musicians who get their gear stolen or damaged! It’s never happened to us, and hopefully it never will, but stories like that hit a nerve with me.
If you could change one thing about the music industry, what would it be?
Make it more accessible for underground bands/artists to have their chance at taking things to a new level.
Name one of your all-time favourite albums?
“Iowa” by Slipknot. That album is a rollercoaster of rage and emotion from start to finish.
What’s best? Vinyl, Cassettes, CDs, or Downloads?
Depends what you are after! Personally, it’s CD’s. Growing up, I collected lots of CD’s. I liked having something physical. It felt more meaningful to me.
What’s the best gig that you have played to date?
We had the pleasure of supporting King 810 on their UK tour back in 2019 – a great experience!
If you weren’t a musician, what else would you be doing?
No idea.
Which five people would you invite to a dinner party?
Joe Rogan, Corey Taylor, Gregg Davies, Bill Bailey and Brian Blessed. A random bunch but they seem like great talkers, funny characters and interesting people.
What’s next for the band?
We have been busy behind the scenes with writing, recording and preparing for the release of our third studio album! We have also entered Bloodstock’s Metal To The Masses competition 2022, which takes place in our local area from late March and through to June.
