EMQ’s With ENTROY
EMQ’s With ENTROY
Hello everyone! Welcome to another EMQs interview, this time with Swedish Modern Progressive Metal/ Djent band, Entropy. Huge thanks to them for taking part.
What is your name, what do you play, and can you tell us a little bit about the history of the band?
Our band is called Entroy and we play Modern Progressive Metal/Djent. We started in the year 2020 in conjunction with the pandemic sweeping the world. We started as a three-piece but have since become a four-piece band with two guitarists, a vocalist and a drummer.
Our line-up at the moment is:
Gabriel Sagner Hökén – Vocals
Jonatan Linder – Guitar
Oscar Johansson – Drums
Andreas Karlsson – Guitar
Erik Arkö – Session bassist
How did you come up with your band name?
It’s an old band name that we re-used, doesn’t mean anything really, it just sounded mystical.
What Country/Region are you from and what is the Metal/Rock scene like there?
We all come from different parts of Stockholm but all have our roots in Västerhaninge. The scene here in Stockholm flourishes with one man DIY Black Metal bands and smaller bands that play Metalcore, but the music scene is alive and will probably come back with full force when the pandemic subsides.
What is your latest release? (Album, EP, Single, Video)
Our latest release is our debut EP “Afterworld” which we released on the first of February 2022.
Who have been your greatest influences?
We have many influences as a band. All of us in this band are big fans of Vildhjarta/HLB, Tesseract, Gojira and Meshuggah have been our main influences for our EP.
What first got you into music?
Gabriel: I got into music when I first heard Pantera’s song ‘Walk’ and wanted to learn to play the guitar at the age of 11. Then when I heard Slipknot as an early teenager, about 12-13 years old, I wanted to learn to growl and sing. Since then, I have dedicated a lot of time to music and it has become a passion for life.
If you could collaborate with a current band or musician who would it be?
We would like to collaborate with different musicians from all possible genres. But a dream would be to work together with Buster Odeholm, Mikael Åkerfeldt or the guys from Mastodon.
If you could play any festival in the world, which would you choose and why?
Gabriel: I would like to play at a packed Download Festival or Euroblast.
What’s the weirdest gift you have ever received from a fan?
None yet!
If you had one message for your fans, what would it be?
Spread the word about us!
If you could bring one rock star back from the dead, who would it be?
Gabriel: I would bring back Alexi Laiho and Mitch Lucker.
What do you enjoy the most about being a musician? And what do you hate?
Gabriel: What I really love about creating music is that I can finally express the emotions that are difficult to express in everyday life and that I can capture it in the moment and show others. It is long-term satisfaction. What I sometimes hate about doing music is writer’s block and finding the time I need to create as much as I want to. It can be a hard itch to scratch if I’m not allowed to get all my ideas out.
Jonatan: the best is to create, the worst is to record it.
If you could change one thing about the music industry, what would it be?
Nothing really.
Name one of your all-time favourite albums?
Gabriel: My favourite album of all time is “Hate” by Thy Art is Murder.
Jonatan: Pink Floyd – “Wish You Were Here”
What’s best? Vinyl, Cassettes, CDs, or Downloads?
Gabriel: I’m all for digital so I think streaming is the best thing ever. But I also like the sound of vinyl.
What’s the best gig that you have played to date?
Gabriel: We’ve not played any gigs with this version of Entroy, but the best gig I played was with the former version of this band at Gula Villan in Haninge.
If you weren’t a musician, what else would you be doing?
Gabriel: I would probably do what I do now. Study logistics and aim to work with Supply Chain Management.
Which five people would you invite to a dinner party?
Gabriel: Alex Terrible, Corey Taylor, Barney Greenway, Will Ramos and Mynni Lukkainen. I think that could be an interesting evening, discussing vocals and having some burgers.
What’s next for the band?
After this cycle we’re going on a very short break and then going back to writing new music.
What Social Media/Website links do you use to get your music out to people?
We’re using our website as the basic platform. https://entroyofficial.com/
But we’re also available on all social media, mostly being active on Instagram and Facebook.

Jaffa Cakes? Are they a cake or a biscuit?
Gabriel: Biscuit! I’ve never had any of those but I could imagine that they would go well with a good cup of Irish cream coffee!
Thank you for your time. Is there anything else that you would like to add?
No thank you!
