EMQ’s With CRS
Hi everyone! Welcome to another EMQs interview, this time with Mexican Tech/ Groove/ Death Metallers, CRS. Huge thanks to their Vocalist, Sir Oz, for taking part.
What is your name, what do you play and can you tell us a little bit about the history of the band?
Sir Oz, Growls. CRS is a Mexican band formed in 1991. We play a kind of Tech Groove Death Metal. We enjoy heavy stuff, and we try to do something solid, brutal music with quality.
How did you come up with your band name?
The name of the band comes from 1991, we were a band of teenagers who loved booze and metal music. Back then we didn’t even have a name, then our followers started to call us Cirrosis. Nowadays we call ourselves CRS, it’s a kind of abbreviation.
What Country / Region are you from and what is the Metal / Rock scene like there?
We´re from Sonora, Mexico. In the desert, there is an underground scene but with quite a bit of talent. The fans are intense and like high-quality music. One thing that we like about our local scene is that the fans are going to have fun and have a good time in the shows.
What is your latest release?
A single: ‘The Failure’.
Music Video The Failure – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iSp_ghJIMVg
Who have been your greatest influences?
Meshuggah, Carcass, Kreator, Morbid Angel, Fear Factory, etc.
What first got you into music?
The intense sound of Metal, since my childhood I was attracted by the overwhelming sound that only Metal music gives us.
If you could collaborate with a current band or musician, who would it be?
Meshuggah or Napalm Death.
If you could play any festival in the world, which would you choose and why?
Hell and Heaven (Mexico City).
What’s the weirdest gift you have ever received from a fan?
A Dr. Simi toy.
If you had one message for your fans, what would it be?
Never stop listening to Metal, no matter what. STAY BRUTAL!
If you could bring one rock star back from the dead, who would it be?
Dimebag.
What do you enjoy the most about being a musician? And what do you hate?
I enjoy the music itself and being part of this. I hate that only a few musicians are able to make a living from music.
If you could change one thing about the music industry, what would it be?
The absurd percentage of royalties that streaming platforms give to artists.
Name one of your all-time favourite albums?
Cynic – Focus.
What’s best? Vinyl, Cassettes, CD’s or Downloads?
Vinyl, I have a great collection by the way.
What’s the best gig that you have played to date?
We opened a concert for Sepultura. 16/10/22
If you weren’t a musician, what else would you be doing?
I love many things. I would like to be a Chef or any social work.
Which five people would you invite to a dinner party?
Tom Araya, Slavoj Žižek, Pancho Villa, Julio Cesar Chavez and Fredrick Thonderdal.
What’s next for the band?
We hope to record more songs and play live at a festival.

Time for a very British question now. As an alternative to the humble sandwich, is the correct name for a round piece of bread common in the UK either a Bap, a Barm (or Barm Cake), a Batch, a Bun, a Cob, a Muffin, a Roll or a Tea Cake?
Ha ha ha ha I choose a Barm Cake. Sounds funny.
Thank you for your time. Is there anything else that you would like to add?
Stay Metal, no matter what.
