EMQ’s With Ronwe
EMQ’s With Ronwe
Hi everyone! Welcome to another EMQs interview, this time with USA Groove/ Death Metal band, Ronwe. Huge thanks to Vocalist, Clint, and Multi-instrumentalist, Ryan, for taking part.
What is your name, what do you play and can you tell us a little bit about the history of the band?
CLINT: I’m the Vocalist for Ronwe. We started this when Ryan, my Buddy of 35 years said “Hey I made some 90 extreme Metal, check it out!” and I said “I’d love to put vocals on it!” and Ronwe was born..
RYAN: Musical sound, guitar, bass, drums, and keyboards.
How did you come up with your band name?
Clint: Ryan wanted a Demon name if I remember and I thought it was cool.
Ryan: I was looking for a demon cool sounding name is how it came to be.
What Country / Region are you from and what is the Metal / Rock scene like there?
Clint: Was Florida/USA now Texas /USA. The Underground Metal scenes have grown and thrived in both areas. The Florida Scene has slowed down some but now I’m in Texas it seems to be thriving again.
What is your latest release? (Album, EP, Single, Video)
Clint: We just released our debut album “Ronwe” on Music Records France.
Who have been your greatest influences?
Clint: For Ronwe I went to Old School Thrash and Death metal – Exodus, Testament, Kreator, Celtic Frost , Bolt Thrower etc.
Ryan: Megadeth, Overkill ,MOD, Slayer
What first got you into music?
Clint: Glam metal. I was bassist in a Glam metal band called “A Split Second” in Late 80’s/90’s in High school.
Ryan: Indie, rock, postpunk, started off as a bass player and switched to guitar.
If you could collaborate with a current band or musician who would it be?
Clint: For me there would be 3. Devin Townsend, Dan Swano and Nordvargr (MZ412).
Ryan: It will be Clint or Nobody
If you could play any festival in the world, which would you choose and why?
Clint: I would love to play The Millwaukee Metalfest again as its back now or Maryland Deathfest.
Ryan: Any street fair or any flea market.
What’s the weirdest gift you have ever received from a fan?
Clint: I received World War I German Naval flags from fans as they knew I loved that time in History.
Ryan: Keeping this opinion to myself.
If you had one message for your fans, what would it be?
Clint: Why, after 25+ years and going on 30 albums, are you still interested in what I do?
Ryan: After 25+ years 20 albums…
If you could bring one rock star back from the dead, who would it be?
Clint: Easy Freddy Mercury. Man was genius.
Ryan: Jim Henson.
What do you enjoy the most about being a musician? And what do you hate?
Clint: I love the creative process and expression. I hate the gatekeepers and close minded music fans.
Ryan: I love coming up with new ideas and crazy things and crazy sounds and just let the artistic ability flow something that I can’t explain but it just comes out it’s like magical rainbows and unicorns sometimes it comes out like a big puddle of Mud but sometimes it comes out and it looks like a diamond.
If you could change one thing about the music industry, what would it be?
Clint: Too much same sounding stuff out. Record labels, stores and digital outlets need to go back to the days when different and unique was important and good.
Ryan: More fun!
Name one of your all-time favourite albums?
Clint: I have two so here we go! “Pet Sounds” – Beach boys and Neurosis – “Through Silver in Blood”.
Ryan: Nirvana’s “Bleach” and guns n’ roses’ “Appetite for Destruction”.
What’s best? Vinyl, Cassettes, CD’s or Downloads?
Clint: Anything you like to support underground music with, simple!!!!
Ryan: CDs.
What’s the best gig that you have played to date?
Clint: I would say playing with Today is the Day back in early 00’s, they crushed it.
Ryan: Hard Rock Casino.
If you weren’t a musician, what else would you be doing?
Clint: Computer IT and owning a toy store.
Ryan: Being a prostitute in New York City giving handies for $5. No Funko pop store.
Which five people would you invite to a dinner party?
Clint: My Friends. Remember meeting your heroes is always a disappointment.
Ryan: Scooby-Doo, Shaggy, Smurfette, Optimus Prime, She-Ra, Chewbacca.
What’s next for the band?
Clint: Who the hell knows? This started as fun and if we can play a few shows that would be a success to me.
What Social Media / Website links do you use to get your music out to people?
Clint: Everything I currently do is at http://thedoorwayto.com/ and for social media I like Instagram most so https://www.instagram.com/thedoorwaytozine/

Time for a very British question now. As an alternative to the humble sandwich, is the correct name for a round piece of bread common in the UK either a Bap, a Barm (or Barm Cake), a Batch, a Bun,, a Cob, a Muffin, a Roll or a Tea Cake?
Clint: I’m in the US so it’s a roll.
Ryan: US, okay.
Thank you for your time. Is there anything else that you would like to add?
Clint: Thank you and Ryan, stop making music I want to record with you on. I’m getting too damn old.
Ryan: I make music to get Clint back into music. That gets Clint all upset because I make music and brings him back making music because if Clint doesn’t make music the world would die. So Clint can’t stop making music because if Clint stops making music the world’s going to burn and die. So Clint you cannot ever ever ever ever ever ever stop making music because the world will die.
