EMQ’s With Inhumed
EMQ’s With Inhumed
Hi everyone! Welcome to another EMQs interview, this time with Canadian Death Metal band, Inhumed. Huge thanks to their bassist, Nick, for taking part.
What is your name, what do you play and can you tell us a little bit about the history of the band?
My name is Nick, and I play bass in the band. Inhumed was formed by Mike (vocals), Ian (guitar/vocals) and Blair (drums) after their previous band Laika disbanded in 2015. After cycling through a couple different bassists and second guitarists, myself and Liam (guitar) joined in 2019. The lineup has been consistent ever since.
How did you come up with your band name?
Mike came up with the name while looking through a thesaurus for words related to “grave”. He came across “Inhume” and decided it sounded cooler as a past tense, and that’s how “Inhumed” came to be.
What Country / Region are you from and what is the Metal / Rock scene like there?
We are from Winnipeg, MB, Canada. We have a pretty tight knit metal scene here, with lots of great local talent!
What is your latest release?
Our latest release is our “Feasted Upon Like Carrion” EP, which is set to release July 14, 2023.
Who have been your greatest influences?
As far as bassists go, I’d say my two biggest influences are Jeff Walker (Carcass) and Phil Lynott (Thin Lizzy). For bands, I’d say I’m influenced by a lot of old school punk (Black Flag, MDC, etc), goregrind (Exhumed, Carcass) and also non heavy bands such as Devo and Thin Lizzy.
What first got you into music?
I grew up in the 90’s, so a lot of the pop-punk bands that were popular at the time served as a stepping stone to introduce me to heavier music.
If you could collaborate with a current band or musician who would it be?
I would probably choose Exhumed or Carcass.
If you could play any festival in the world, which would you choose and why?
Hellfest in France. Their lineup is always insane!
What’s the weirdest gift you have ever received from a fan?
None that I can think of in this band. I received various religious pamphlets from a fan in another band I play in, so we will go with that.
If you had one message for your fans, what would it be?
Respect others / respect yourself.
If you could bring one rock star back from the dead, who would it be?
Phil Lynott (Thin Lizzy).
What do you enjoy the most about being a musician? And what do you hate?
I enjoy making music with my friends and getting to support bands I love. I hate loading gear.
If you could change one thing about the music industry, what would it be?
Streaming services paying bands fairly!
Name one of your all-time favourite albums?
Darkthrone – “A Blaze In The Northern Sky”.
What’s best? Vinyl, Cassettes, CD’s or Downloads?
Vinyl or Cassette, for sure!
What’s the best gig that you have played to date?
Manitoba Metalfest 2022 with Cryptopsy and Kataklysm.
If you weren’t a musician, what else would you be doing?
Sitting at home.
Which five people would you invite to a dinner party?
Jeff walker (Carcass), George Fisher (Cannibal Corpse), Mark Mothersbaugh (Devo), Fenriz and Nocturnal Culto (Darkthrone).
What’s next for the band?
We have a bunch of local shows lined up to the end of the year, and are hoping to get out on the road for some Canadian tour dates as soon as possible.
What Social Media / Website links do you use to get your music out to people?

Time for a very British question now. As an alternative to the humble sandwich, is the correct name for a round piece of bread common in the UK either a Bap, a Barm (or Barm Cake), a Batch, a Bun, a Cob, a Muffin, a Roll or a Tea Cake?
I haven’t a clue, but I’m going to guess a Barm Cake!
Thank you for your time. Is there anything else that you would like to add?
Pick up “Feasted Upon Like Carrion” on July 14!
