EMQ’s With Sleep In Motion

EMQ’s With Sleep In Motion

Hi everyone! Welcome to another EMQs interview, this time with UK Grunge/ Punk band, Sleep In Motion. Huge thanks to their Vocalist/ Guitarist, Ryan, for taking part.

What is your name, what do you play and can you tell us a little bit about the history of the band?

I’m Ryan and I play guitar and sing in the band.

How did you come up with your band name?

Me and Alex (Drums) were in another band a few years back and we had a sound engineer who was adamant that he couldn’t go to sleep while moving on the tour bus. Turns out he was the first asleep every night and snored violently and kept us up a lot of the time. He still claimed he couldn’t ‘Sleep in Motion’ and this became a running joke for a while and kinda stuck.

What Country / Region are you from and what is the Metal / Rock scene like there?

We are from Nottingham in the UK. There’s a great music scene in the city and a lot of venues showcasing upcoming artists. I’d say right now it’s the place to be in the UK for up and coming music.

What is your latest release?

We released ‘Terminal’ a few weeks ago which is the lead single of our debut album called “Existential” that is out November 10th.

Who have been your greatest influences?

Personally in music I would look at bands who have carried on working through all of the ups and downs they suffer for years to build a solid career in the industry. Bands like Bring Me The Horizon really have shown that bands can exist through reinvention and taking risks in the music they’re making while ultimately growing in popularity through mainstream marketing while keeping a foot in their roots.

What first got you into music?

My dad was given a best of heavy metal CD for his birthday when I was like 5 years old. I took it a few days later and played it in my room. I couldn’t believe what I was hearing when I heard Black Sabbath Paranoid and Iron Maiden Run To the Hills. I was so taken aback my little mind was blown. I wish I could feel that same feeling again today towards music.

If you could collaborate with a current band or musician who would it be?

All of us are loving what Bob Vylan are doing right now. I think that would be interesting.

If you could play any festival in the world, which would you choose and why?

Always Download festival. It’s always been local to us and it’s just the bucket list. We will see…

What’s the weirdest gift you have ever received from a fan?

I wouldn’t say I’ve had any weird ones really. I’ve had drawings and people have got lyrics tattooed that I’ve written and I find that amazing.

If you had one message for your fans, what would it be?

Thank you for everything, it’s all incredibly appreciated.

If you could bring one rock star back from the dead, who would it be?

Always Kurt Cobain.

What do you enjoy the most about being a musician? And what do you hate?

I love being creative. That’s the number one thing I enjoy. I don’t really hate anything about it to be fair, I try to enjoy all of it as much as I can!

If you could change one thing about the music industry, what would it be?

I’d change the radio so a single song can only be played a certain amount of times a day to make room for different artists.

Name one of your all-time favourite albums?

“City of Evil” by Avenged Sevenfold.

What’s best? Vinyl, Cassettes, CD’s or Downloads?

I love vinyl. There’s just something about holding a record and the sleeve being big and looking at the artwork that makes it more than just the music.

What’s the best gig that you have played to date?

Our headline show in Nottingham in June was really special.

If you weren’t a musician, what else would you be doing?

I’d spend a lot of time at home with my partner watching horror films.

Which five people would you invite to a dinner party?

Elon Musk, Synyster Gates, Brian Cox, Gordon Ramsey (Chef) and Peter Kay.

What’s next for the band?

Hopefully a lot of live dates supporting the new album next year and for many years after!

What Social Media / Website links do you use to get your music out to people?

Facebook, Instagram and TikTok. You can find us under Sleepinmotionoffiical.

Time for a very British question now. As an alternative to the humble sandwich, is the correct name for a round piece of bread common in the UK either a Bap, a Barm (or Barm Cake), a Batch, a Bun, a Cob, a Muffin, a Roll or a Tea Cake?

Alway a Cob.

Thank you for your time. Is there anything else that you would like to add?

Head over to our website and check out where we’re heading on tour and have a look at our store for the different versions of our debut album available to pre order now.
