9/10

Since I joined this beautiful team of Ever Metal a few years ago, I clearly remember that it was when I decided to focus my time and energy only on bands who are worth all the work we do here, considering we all write reviews for passion. At that time, I was very tired of focusing my energy to promote them, more the members wanted to promote their own bands. If you know Nervosa, it’s unnecessary to mention that most of their success came from hard work and how they abdicate many things in their lives to live by the music and I let it very clear on my last review about the band, two years ago.

What I could never imagine, is how strong they are to rebuild everything when it looks like it is falling apart and make the band even better than before. Line up changes are never easy, especially when it is about the vocalist replacement. When the first Nervosa single hit the web, we immediately had an explosion of good reactions seeing that the guitarist and the only founder remaining, Prika Amaral, decided to be the new singer and the result was not less than amazing. I immediately thought “Now, Prika has found the perfect singer for Nervosa” and I am saying it with all respect for the amazing former singers and members that were part of the band.

In addition to this new era for Nervosa, the band brought a second guitarist to the band, Helena Kotina, and the result is a pure Thrash Metal album with a brutal wall of heaviness punching your face and let not forget the beautiful work of the drummer Michaela Naydenova and Hel Pyre on bass. My first impression was to hear a mix of Destruction with Exodus. Sometimes it’s more connected to the German sound when we have the fast tracks, but also things are very connected to the strong guitar picks from Mr Gary Holt, who even contributed to one song here, ‘When the Truth Is a Lie’.

Musically we can divide the album in songs like I mentioned before as the opening one and ‘Suffocare’. Also, songs that carry a dark atmosphere like ‘Seed of Death’ which grows slowly in a best Slayer’s ‘Seasons in the Abyss’ way, but with a Brazilian cadence alongside it. I really enjoyed the fast speed over tracks like ‘Ungrateful’ and ‘Nail The Coffin’ and this last one even carries good melodies, but there are more interesting things and there is one specific highlight that is the best part in my humble opinion. Let me clarify that what I will mention ahead is something I’m supposing and not affirming.

From all the videos I’ve seen of Nervosa playing live, I really feel that Nervosa are really happy on stage and really enjoying this moment. When I look at Prika’s face, I feel that she had a great relief since she could successfully keep going with this new formation. Songs like ‘Jailbreak’ kind of represents it, because it sounds like a Motörhead music being played by a brutal Thrash band, but more than how they sound in this track, is seeing them celebrating and partying which is an important thing about everything around music. Musically, you are going to hear an interesting solo, more focused on offering good and simple melodies.

Well. This new album “Jailbreak” has brought a brand-new band that breathes pure Thrash Metal. Nervosa is sounding much more complete now, exploring and adding new elements without losing their identity. As I said in my first paragraph, the determination of these girls is something very impressive. If I’ve already admired them before, I admire them even more now.
