EMQ’s With ROCK N’ ROAD

Hi everyone! Welcome to another EMQs interview, this time with Greek Classic Rockers, Rock N’ Road. Huge thanks to their drummer, Nikos, and their Lead Singer, Marios, for taking part.

What is your name, what do you play and can you tell us a little bit about the history of the band?

This is Nikos Maraziotis and Marios Karabotis  ,drummer and lead singer of Rock N’ Road . Well, the band was formed during a ride with our motorcycles as we were getting some rest at the edge of a mountainside talking about our favourite music ,lifestyle and philosophy.

How did you come up with your band name?

Well it’s quite simple and obvious. We ride classic motorcycles ,we play classic rock ,we are Rock n’ Road.

What Country/Region are you from and what is the Metal/Rock scene like there?

We are from Athens,Greece. The scene in our country is actually really lively. Many bands get really creative about metal and rock genres. There is a lot of competition as the level is getting higher and higher.

What is your latest release?

Our latest release after the summer period that we released our last single “Jimmy the Lizard” ,is “Mind Over Matter” ,marking the opening of a circle of creation that will be completed till June by the name “The Midnight Tale”

Who have been your greatest influences?

We are quite sure about that.  Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple, Rainbow, Black Sabbath

What first got you into music?

(Nikos) –Growing up I listened to classic rock and quite quickly I decided that it was time I started getting into it exploring my own identity.

(Marios) I studied music from a really young age being able to express myself through a lot of genres as a professional pianist. But as a singer, classic rock was the only way to speak my mind. Classically trained musician with a rock n roll mind I would say .

If you could collaborate with a current band or musician who would it be?

As most of our influences are retired we would certainly love to collaborate with Deep Purple one day but our greatest thought would be to get on stage with people like Robert Plant , Ozzy Osbourne, Ronnie James Dio etc.

If you could play any festival in the world, which would you choose and why?

WoodStock  , California jam ,if it was ever remade because these festivals line-ups were the heart and “Big bang” of our inspiration and genre that we represent.

What’s the weirdest gift you have ever received from a fan?

An underwear with our band logo printed on it .

If you had one message for your fans, what would it be?

Follow your dreams and be yourself. The stage is yours.

If you could bring one rock star back from the dead, who would it be?

We would bring back Ronnie James Dio but Led Zeppelin needed John Bonham to continue as a band , so we would really be thrilled to witness their journey from 1980 until  today.

What do you enjoy the most about being a musician? And what do you hate?

The total thrill is that we are able to express every thought through our work and create everything that we imagine. The cons though are that in our times having a band lacks the romance of living in an era where rock n roll lifestyle existed at its most and people listened to music first and then watched the outer image.

If you could change one thing about the music industry, what would it be?

We wouldn’t change the music industry at all as it was always the same. The thing that could be changed is the way people view the industry ,as their point of view is what gives the industry the power to expect anything from the bands but their music.

Name one of your all-time favourite albums?

Led Zeppelin IV

What’s best? Vinyl, Cassettes, CD’s or Downloads?

Vinyl…

What’s the best gig that you have played to date?

Our first performance on “Holywood Stage” two years ago . A tradition that keeps happening once a year.

If you weren’t a musician, what else would you be doing?

There is no other choice given to ourselves.

Which five people would you invite to a dinner party?

Our guitarist and 4 of his chicks ,as you allow only 5 people to be invited.

What’s next for the band?

It’s a long way to the top ,if you wanna Rock n Roll…

Time for a very British question now. As an alternative to the humble sandwich, is the correct name for a round piece of bread common in the UK either a Bap, a Barm (or Barm Cake), a Batch, a Bun, a Cob, a Muffin, a Roll or a Tea Cake?

As a traditional answer we would go for “Crumpet” but we believe that nowadays bap would be a better answer. Of course that’s what Google said .

Thank you for your time. Is there anything else that you would like to add?

We would like to thank you for this opportunity, for this interview on your site and one last thing… The only true power that is given to us as individuals is our ability to create. Live by that.
