EMQ’s With Gory Blister
Hi everyone! Welcome to another EMQs interview, this time with Italian Technical Death Metal band, Gory Blister. Huge thanks to their guitarist, Raff Sangiorgio, for taking part.
What is your name, what do you play, and can you tell us a little bit about the history of the band?
I’m Raff Sangiorgio, the guitarist for Gory Blister since our formation in the darkened halls of 1991.
How did you come up with your band name?
Gory Blister is a metaphor for the explosive rage encapsulated in our Death Metal. It’s a visceral name that mirrors the intensity of our music.
What Country / Region are you from, and what is the Metal / Rock scene like there?
Our roots are deeply embedded in the metal terrain of Italy. The Death Metal scene here echoes the ebb and flow of global counterparts—not mainstream, but a fervent subculture with dedicated followers and an ever-evolving live scene.
What is your latest release?
Our latest sonic journey is the full-length album titled “Reborn from Hatred.”
Who have been your greatest influences?
The mighty Death, led by the late Chuck Schuldiner, is a foundational influence. Bands like Carcass and Morbid Angel from the 90’s scene have also left an indelible mark on our sound.
What first got you into music?
The Thrash Metal uprising of the late 80’s, driven by the sonic assault of Metallica and Slayer, ignited the rebellious fire within me and propelled me to pick up the guitar.
If you could collaborate with a current band or musician who would it be?
The architects of modern sonic devastation, Gojira, would be an exhilarating collaboration.
If you could play any festival in the world, which would you choose and why?
The hallowed grounds of Wacken would be our chosen battlefield. It’s a congregation of metal fervor, where the flames of passion burn brightest.
What’s the weirdest gift you have ever received from a fan?
The devoted legions have yet to materialize their offerings in physical form.
If you had one message for your fans, what would it be?
Immerse yourself in the depths of our new album, “Reborn from Hatred.” Let the darkness and raw power envelop you.
If you could bring one rock star back from the dead, who would it be?
Chuck Schuldiner, the eternal harbinger of Death Metal.
What do you enjoy the most about being a musician? And what do you hate?
The creative process, from crafting riffs to sharing the music on stage, is my greatest joy. However, the devaluation of music in the streaming era is a source of deep frustration.
If you could change one thing about the music industry, what would it be?
The eradication of streaming giants like Spotify and Apple Music—a force suffocating art and creativity.
Name one of your all-time favorite albums?
Choosing is a challenge, but several albums stand as milestones in musical influence.
What’s best? Vinyl, Cassettes, CD’s, or Downloads?
CD, the format of sonic purity.
What’s the best gig that you have played to date?
Memorable shows include a festival in Groningen, sharing the stage with Gorfest, Sadus, Darkane, and Evolution Festival in Florence, alongside Behemoth, Sodom, Nevermore, and Kataklysm.
If you weren’t a musician, what else would you be doing?
The path without music remains a mystery.
Which five people would you invite to a dinner party?
Jon Zazula, Zakk Wylde, James Hetfield, Joe Satriani, Lenny Kravitz.
What’s next for the band?
The stage beckons; we aim to unleash our sonic onslaught wherever metal hearts beat.
Thank you for your time. Is there anything else that you would like to add?
The infernal fires of Gory Blister rage on. Embrace the darkness, and let the metal reign.
