EMQ’s With Drip Fed Empire

Hi everyone! Welcome to another EMQs interview, this time with UK Nu-Metal band, Drip Fed Empire. Huge thanks to Vocalist/ Electronics guy, Jay, for taking part.

What is your name, what do you play and can you tell us a little bit about the history of the band?

Hi, I’m Jay and I’m the vocalist and the electronics guy in the band.

How did you come up with your band name?

Our drummer came up with the band. It’s essentially a metaphor for our world view and the ethos of the band’s message. It basically means that us at the bottom of society are drip fed from the top down to the bottom and we receive the dregs so to speak.

What Country / Region are you from and what is the Metal / Rock scene like there?

We’re from Bristol in England. There is a thriving Rock & Metal scene here in the U.K. Bristol especially has a huge music scene. There’s an array of gigs happening literally every day here in a wide range of styles.

What is your latest release?

Our latest release is a track called ‘MK4’ which dropped about four weeks ago now.

Who have been your greatest influences?

All the Nu Metal bands I grew up listening to in the early 00’s as well as all the early Dubstep & Drum & Bass producers that got me interested in electronic music as well at the time. Bands like Enter Shikari, Crossfaith & Linkin Park are big ones for me as they bridged that gap between electronic music and Metal massively for me.

What first got you into music?

My brother had a huge influence on my interest in music as he played piano and guitar from a young age. He then joined bands in his early teens, and I decided to learn bass as they needed a bass player when I was about 9-10 years old.

If you could collaborate with a current band or musician who would it be?

I would love to work with Enter Shikari as they’ve been such an influence in making the kind of music I wanted to make from the start.

If you could play any festival in the world, which would you choose and why?

I would love to play at Download festival. I think that’s been a dream for all of us as it’s the biggest Rock & Metal festival in the UK.

What’s the weirdest gift you have ever received from a fan?

Don’t think I’ve received anything that I would say is weird. We’ve received some really cool things though. Recently a fan made some glass drinks matts for us with our logo and a photo of the band on which I thought was awesome.

If you had one message for your fans, what would it be?

Thanks for supporting us and finding joy in our music like we do. I feel like you are all part of the team and just want to let you know how much you mean to us!

If you could bring one rock star back from the dead, who would it be?

Chester Bennington.

What do you enjoy the most about being a musician? And what do you hate?

The Best? Creating and performing music. The worst? Carrying Equipment.

If you could change one thing about the music industry, what would it be?

Give bands more royalties per streams.

Name one of your all-time favourite albums?

Linkin Park – “Hybrid Theory”.

What’s best? Vinyl, Cassettes, CD’s or Downloads?

For us Vinyl as the proceeds go directly to the artist and the fan has something physical that they own from the band.

What’s the best gig that you have played to date?

Sheffield recently was pretty awesome.

If you weren’t a musician, what else would you be doing?

Most likely be more involved in body modification (piercing, tattooing and or cosmetics).

Which five people would you invite to a dinner party?

Chester Bennington, Rou Reynolds, Frank Carter, Sonny Moore, Devilman.

What’s next for the band?

After this album, just get out gigging as much as possible throughout 2024.

What Social Media / Website links do you use to get your music out to people?

Tiktok, Instagram, ‘X’, Facebook, Spotify, Apple Music, Amazon & Bandcamp. They’re the main ones for us. Check out – https://linktr.ee/dripfedempire

Time for a very British question now. As an alternative to the humble sandwich, is the correct name for a round piece of bread common in the UK either a Bap, a Barm (or Barm Cake), a Batch, a Bun, a Cob, a Muffin, a Roll or a Tea Cake?

It really depends on where you’re from so many people call it all of the above. I would say bun personally but none of the others are wrong either ha ha.

Thank you for your time. Is there anything else that you would like to add?

Thanks for reaching out and for setting up this interview and thanks to everyone out there that’s reading this. Hope you’ve enjoyed this read! Stay tuned for more releases and dates coming soon!
