After a long time away from writing, I’ve found this album that I was supposed to review in March, but all the chaos that is surrounding Brazil after the terrible floods in the south of the country made me forget about it for a while. I know that this delay is terrible in terms of losing the good timing for the release, but at least I could have a different feeling hearing it after a few weeks since the first time I put it to play.

I thought these British guys were just a typical Grindcore band, playing what this style carries the best. Which could be massive and confusing sometimes when you don’t know how to do it, but I could feel a bit of Thrash Metal influence on the opening track ‘T-Virus’ with a small part of the drum beats sounding very ‘Criminally Insane’ (Slayer) for a few seconds. And it is what I think they wanted to do – not to stay chained in only one style. There are many moments of Punk and Metal, very well played, to flee from the main genre.

I can’t really pick out the lyrics, but based on the band’s description of the album, and the cover art, it is probably about a virus that turns people into zombies and the war here is to not have your ass eaten by one of them! Maybe I’m sounding very silly describing it, but the music is a true soundtrack of war, and all the chaos when you don’t have time to think during this battle.

It also can be a criticism of what people are becoming with many cases of total lack of humanity. I believe that I can assure that it is happening, using an example of the floods in Brazil that I mentioned before. There were cases of abuse of women and children in the shelters that they are living in after losing their homes. War and violence is happening everywhere. And even just people being aggressive on social media. And I think it is something the band want to convey too.

Musically, the band offer very fast songs, with very distorted vocals, but there are moments when they break this pattern. In ‘Selfish Enough to Suck Air’, for example. It’s when the band lets you take a breather from the fast music, giving a very cadenced and dark song. The closing track ‘Wasted Death by Wasted Death’ also offers a good cadence with a beautiful Thrashy solo.

“Season Of Evil” is a short album, very well recorded, that is made to enjoy a mix of Punk, Grindcore and Thrash. Things are simple and well made here. It carries a bit of fiction, also a view of what human beings have turned into, which is people looking like soulless zombies!
