One of the greatest things about being a reviewer of Heavy Metal albums is when you become friends with another reviewer that really loves to find new good underground bands from your local scene, that is starting a career. All my friends at Ever Metal have this passion, but we live in different countries, which makes it happen less frequently, despite the fact that we often do it.

This time, my long-time brother of reviews (which is like a brother in life too) Mr. William Ribas showed me a band from the city where I live. It is funny because he was listening to another band from here, called MOFO when he found it. He immediately asked if I knew about Alcoholic Vortex, because he really enjoyed them. Despite living in a different city from to me, he has been always showing me new bands from Brasília, like this one.

I confess that I had heard about them, but I am so lazy that I’ve never taken a time to hear music itself, and I do regret it, because I went crazy along the first minutes of this EP, so thanks William. We are getting old, grumpy and slow, but we still have this passion and excitement for new bands even after doing it after many years.

But focusing on what matters, I heard this short EP and I got impressed. What an amazing Thrash Metal band. They offer a very simple record in terms of going straight to the point with a very impressive Thrash Metal like nuclear assault or old Exodus, but very easy to digest. And when I say simple, it has a good way of meaning. I miss a good Thrash that doesn’t make the music so complex.

You will find everything here. Catchy riffs, drum fills, solos, melodies and strong backing vocals to support the chorus. Songs like ‘Space Surfing‘ can summarize the spirit of this album. It is like you have the best of the eighties, but with a good quality of recording production. It sounds clear and organic at the same time. I loved the elements of the cover art which mix spaceships and beer, of course. You can see many references to the movie Star Wars there and again, the way they created the cover also put together these old references in a modern alcoholic way.

The theme, by the way, carries a good sense of humor. It is about a Metalhead who was abducted when he was going to a Heavy Metal concert, and he ended up in Cosmic war with aliens’ conspiracies. “Space Traumas Part I: The Alcoholic Menace” shows musicians with good technique, full of inspirations to put killer riffs out. At the same time, it is not massive to those who enjoy something with the eighties spirit. So, grab a beer and embark on this alcoholic adventure!
