EMQ’s With Thiago Alboneti
EMQ’s With Thiago Alboneti
Hi everyone! Welcome to another EMQs interview, this time with Brazilian solo musician Thiago Alboneti, who has a whole range of projects including: Death Thrash/Groove Metal band Chaotic Desolation, Doom Metal band Funeral Dawn and Black Metal band Infinity of Thoughts.
What is your name, what do you play and can you tell us a little bit about the history of the band?
My name is Thiago Alboneti, and I am the sole member of all my bands/projects, so I literally do everything in them.
Chaotic Desolation came about when a previous project was cancelled. Since I already had some songs ready and didn’t want to leave them unused, I decided to do everything alone once again. Chaotic Desolation is a Thrash / Groove Metal project.
Funeral Dawn, my Doom Metal project, emerged in 2020 during the pandemic. During that time, I was going through various difficulties and needed to express it in some way, and it didn’t fit in Beyond Chaos (another project of mine), so I created Funeral Dawn.
Infinity of Thoughts, my Black Metal project, came about simply because I really like the style and wanted a project dedicated to it.
How did you come up with your band name?
Chaotic Desolation came about from the messages I wanted to convey through the music of this project. It creates a setting of war, but addresses various topics, always leaving the listener open to interpretations.
The name Funeral Dawn was inspired by a song by Marduk, a band I greatly admire.
Infinity of Thoughts was derived from the song “Into The Infinity of Thoughts” by Emperor.
What Country / Region are you from and what is the Metal / Rock scene like there?
I am from Osasco/SP – Brazil. The scene here in Brazil is quite active, but not every band gets the proper support. Many of the “specialised media” give more attention to already established bands in the genre rather than giving space to bands that really need it. Additionally, this often comes at a cost that underground national bands cannot always afford.
On the other hand, we have great pages on Instagram and YouTube that do a magnificent job of covering what happens in the national scene. They promote bands, record interviews, live streams, and podcasts. I often say that it’s not just the bands that make the scene happen; these pages are very necessary, and I also say that in the underground is where metal really happens.
What is your latest release?
In March 2023, I released the debut album of Chaotic Desolation titled “Biological Sonnet”. Before that, I had released two singles: ‘Echoes of Triumph’ and ‘Requiem for the Voiceless’.
Funeral Dawn released the single ‘In Mourning’s Silence’ on May 26, 2024.
The latest album I released with Infinity of Thoughts is called “A Sky Full of Secrets,” and it was released in 2023. It’s quite different from previous releases as it’s an instrumental and ambient Black Metal album, heavily influenced by Lustre and Eldamar.
All my works, from Beyond Chaos, Funeral Dawn, Chaotic Desolation and Infinity of Thoughts, are available on major digital platforms.
Who have been your greatest influences?
Chaotic Desolation is heavily influenced by Machine Head, Iced Earth, Nevermore, and Lamb of God.
For Funeral Dawn I am greatly influenced by Draconian, Shape of Despair and Doom.
What first got you into music?
It was during my school days. Actually, my first experience with a band was as a vocalist in a hardcore band here in Osasco. However, I always liked the guitar more and started studying the instrument since then. This was in the early 2000’s.
If you could collaborate with a current band or musician who would it be?
I have some collaborations with musicians from the local scene here in Brazil. For example, in the song ‘Set The World On Fire’ by Infinity of Thoughts, Corposeco, from the one-man band Fratura, shares the vocals with me. In the song ‘Under the Sign’, Renan Bezan, the former vocalist of the band Sacramentia, also shares the vocals with me in this project, Chaotic Desolation.
If you could play any festival in the world, which would you choose and why?
I think the dream of every metal band is to play at Wacken.
What’s the weirdest gift you have ever received from a fan?
I have never received any gifts from fans. Actually, I don’t even know if I have fans.
If you had one message for your fans, what would it be?
Well, to all who listen to and admire my work, I thank you very much. And for those who don’t know it, please give my projects/bands a chance. I’m sure you’ll like at least one of them.
If you could bring one rock star back from the dead, who would it be?
Chuck Schuldiner.
What do you enjoy the most about being a musician? And what do you hate?
What I like most is expressing my ideas and thoughts through music. I don’t express myself very well with words, so I use music to say things that are trapped inside me. What do I hate the most? I think there is nothing I don’t like doing when it comes to music. I think “canned” artists. I really hate the way pop artists emerge as products of some office where suits control the entire life of that artist.
The person doesn’t need to compose because someone else writes the music, the person doesn’t need to sing because playback is used at shows, the person can’t express themselves because their manager decides what they can or cannot say. I hate these things.
If you could change one thing about the music industry, what would it be?
This “canned” artists industry.
Name one of your all-time favourite albums?
It’s hard to pick just one. But I listened a lot to the album “Alive in Athens” by Iced Earth when I was a teenager. I could play that album from start to finish, not just that one, but the entire discography of Iced Earth up to the album “The Glorious Burden”. It was one of the bands that made me want to play the guitar and create my own riffs the most.
What’s best? Vinyl, Cassettes, CD’s or Downloads?
I think each one has its peculiarities. Nowadays, people listen to music in digital format, but heavy metal fans still buy CD’s and vinyl records to have it on their collection, although they don’t necessarily listen to them. Physical material still has a lot of success in the heavy metal scene.
What’s the best gig that you have played to date?
I’ve never done a gig, actually, I also don’t have the desire to have a band per se. I like creating my songs alone and distributing them to whoever wants to listen.
If you weren’t a musician, what else would you be doing?
Something related to the IT field.
Which five people would you invite to a dinner party?
This one is also tough, but I think I would call Michael Amott, George Corpsegrinder, Andre Matos, Nergal, and Chuck Billy.
What’s next for the band?
At the moment, I’m finishing the compositions for a new album by Funeral Dawn.
What Social Media / Website links do you use to get your music out to people?
I have only instagram https://www.instagram.com/thiagoalboneti/
Though the band doesn’t have any social media, you can find their music on these two links below, also in all digital streaming platforms:

Time for a very British question now. As an alternative to the humble sandwich, is the correct name for a round piece of bread common in the UK either a Bap, a Barm (or Barm Cake), a Batch, a Bun, a Cob, a Muffin, a Roll or a Tea Cake?
I have no idea hahahaha.
Thank you for your time. Is there anything else that you would like to add?
I would like to thank this space and also tell people who are not familiar with my work to give it a chance. If you like death metal, I recommend listening to the album “Fanaticvs Sanctvs” by Beyond Chaos.
If you like Funeral Dawn (Project), listen to the album “Inner Demons”. If you enjoy Black Metal, listen to the album “When the Winter Ends” by Infinity of Thoughts.
And if you’re into thrash metal, check out the album “Biological Sonnet” by Chaotic Desolation.
