EMQ’s With Mina Warren
EMQ’s With Mina Warren
Hi everyone! Welcome to another EMQs interview, this time with French Alt-Rock/ Punk artist, Mina Warren. Huge thanks to her for taking part.
What is your name, what do you play and can you tell us a little bit about the history of the band?
My name is Mina Warren, and I’m a solo artist blending pop punk with alternative rock. I started out as the lead singer and founder of a punk rock band where I developed my sound and passion for storytelling through music. Since going solo in 2022, I’ve continued to push boundaries with each release, always striving to innovate and try bold new things.
How did you come up with your band name?
Mina Warren is a bit of a remix of my real name.
What Country / Region are you from and what is the Metal / Rock scene like there?
I’m from the French Riviera. The Rock scene here is small but passionate, with a dedicated underground community that keeps the spirit of rock alive. Although we’re known for our beaches and palm trees, there’s also a gritty side to the region that fuels a lot of creativity.
What is your latest release? (Album, EP, Single, Video)
My latest release is the single “NEWBORN OF WAR,” accompanied by a music video that has gained some success on YouTube. It’s a powerful anthem of resilience and strength, about a woman giving birth, set against a military metaphor that symbolizes the beauty and horror of life.
Who have been your greatest influences?
I draw inspiration from artists like Avril Lavigne, Paramore, and Tonight Alive. Their ability to blend raw emotion with catchy melodies has deeply influenced my approach to music.
What first got you into music?
I’ve always been captivated by the way music can tell stories and evoke strong emotions. Bringing people together and creating emotions in any situation in life – that’s the power of music. It can be listened to in any circumstance.
If you could collaborate with a current band or musician who would it be?
Collaborating with Hayley Williams of Paramore would be a dream. Her energy and authenticity are unmatched.
If you could play any festival in the world, which would you choose and why?
Glastonbury, without a doubt. It’s one of the most legendary festivals, and the diversity of the crowd and lineup would make for an unforgettable experience.
What’s the weirdest gift you have ever received from a fan?
A fan once sent me a miniature replica of myself performing. It was so detailed and creative – definitely one of the most unique, but also one of the weirdest gifts I’ve ever received.
If you had one message for your fans, what would it be?
Music is only real when it’s shared. Thank you for being a part of this journey with me and for bringing my songs to life.
If you could bring one rock star back from the dead, who would it be?
Elvis. His charisma and impact on music are timeless, and it would be incredible to see what he would do in today’s music scene.
What do you enjoy the most about being a musician? And what do you hate?
I love the creative freedom and the connection with fans – nothing beats the energy of a live show. What I hate is the pressure to constantly chase numbers and trends, which can strip away the authenticity and human connection that music is supposed to represent.
If you could change one thing about the music industry, what would it be?
I’d change the obsession with fame and statistics that turns musicians into digital products. This race for success often leads to a loss of genuine talent and creativity in favor of overproduction.
Name one of your all-time favourite albums?
“The Number of the Beast” by Iron Maiden. It’s a Heavy Metal masterpiece that continues to inspire with its powerful riffs, epic storytelling, and the raw energy that defined an era.
What’s best? Vinyl, Cassettes, CD’s or Downloads?
Vinyl, without a doubt. There’s something about the warmth and purity of vinyl that can’t be replicated by digital formats.
What’s the best gig that you have played to date?
The best gig I’ve played was at a music festival in a castle. The atmosphere was magical, and the energy from the crowd was unforgettable.
If you weren’t a musician, what else would you be doing?
I’d probably be an international lawyer, which was my previous profession. But I’m glad I made the switch – music is where my heart truly lies.
Which five people would you invite to a dinner party?
I’d invite Roger Federer, Hayley Williams, Quentin Tarantino, Charlie Chaplin, and John Lennon. The conversation would be surreal and endlessly inspiring.
What’s next for the band?
I’m currently working on finishing my album “THE QUEEN OF DECISION” and preparing for a European tour with my label. I’m also releasing a new single “CHRYSALIS NIGHT” later this year, followed by a surprise cover with a video that pays tribute to one of my favorite bands.
What Social Media / Website links do you use to get your music out to people?
You can follow my journey and discover my music on these platforms:
Time for a very British question now. As an alternative to the humble sandwich, is the correct name for a round piece of bread common in the UK either a Bap, a Barm (or Barm Cake), a Batch, a Bun, a Cob, a Muffin, a Roll, or a Tea Cake?
I’d say “Bun” – it just feels right to me!
Thank you for your time. Is there anything else that you would like to add?
Just a huge thank you to everyone who supports me, it’s truly amazing. Stay tuned – there’s so much more to come!
