Alcoholic Vortex strikes back with their second part of a saga about Warren Jackson’s abduction and all the galactic war it caused. If you never heard about this amazing Thrash Metal band from Brasília (Brazil), there is an interesting interview (here) where the Vocalist Victor “Chuck” Rascal tells how his dice with death from Covid-19 made him start the band with a huge link between his and the album’s history.

To summarize it, part one is about Warren Jackson when he was abducted and had something put in his body. Warren could escape to Nebulla, being well received there, but an unexpected pandemic started there. This second chapter is about him and his allies fighting back the Yarells. If you immediately associated this galactic plot with Star Wars, as I did, you are probably right. There are a few artistic references to the movie on the band’s cover art, since their first EP.

Musically, we still have a short and precise Thrash Metal release, with 14 minutes of fast songs going straight ahead and to the point. The main difference now, in my opinion, is the increase of aggressiveness for this chapter, probably made by the fact they are narrating intense battles and actions. The previous chapter had more focus on musical additions of harmonies and melodies, and I believe it was connected to the confusion in Warren’s mind when he was first abducted. It is like the band tried to do something like a soundtrack for it.

It doesn’t mean we don’t have good solos, harmonies and melodies in this album, which are all very well done by the guitarists Phil Clone Warrior and Marc Lizzy, but the idea is to create a kind of tension like in a movie full of action, and it’s felt right from the drum intro from Xenomorfo, in the opening song ‘Home of Yarells’. The drummer Xenomorfo also shows great drum fills throughout the EP and I really enjoy it. The heaviness of the EP strikes hard on the tracks ‘Worlds Colliding’ and ‘Heatseekers‘, where even vocalist, Victor, is singing with much more anger than before.

Maybe I’m not so much into the lyrical concept of the album, despite it being very interesting, but I do enjoy when bands can musically express themselves through the concept they created. For sure Alcoholic Vortex will make their listeners go deeper into this saga, creating an intense atmosphere on ‘Space Traumas Part 2: Attack Of The Yarells’.
