EMQ with EDIT THE TIDE
EMQ with EDIT THE TIDE
Hi everyone! Welcome to another EMQs interview, this time with Welsh Alt Metallers, Edit The Tide. huge thanks to their Rhythm guitarist, Rob, for taking part.
What is your name, what do you play and can you tell us a little bit about the history of the band?
I’m Rob, rhythm guitarist for Edit the Tide, based in Bridgend, South Wales. The band came together about three years ago, with members from a mix of previous projects who shared the same vision for making music that felt fresh but still connected to our roots. Since then, we’ve been writing, recording, and releasing music that’s been steadily gaining traction — and we’re just getting started!
How did you come up with your band name?
The name Edit the Tide is about transformation — about taking control when life feels unchangeable, like the tide itself. We wanted a name that captured that sense of empowerment and pushing against the current when things get tough.
What Country / Region are you from and what is the Metal / Rock scene like there?
We’re proudly from Wales, and honestly, the rock and metal scene here is thriving right now. There’s everything from gritty hardcore bands to melodic indie acts, and there’s a real sense of community between musicians. More venues are opening up, and there’s a buzz that makes it a really exciting time to be playing live music here.
What is your latest release? (Album, EP, Single, Video)
Our latest project is our second EP ”The Space Between Seconds,” which drops this November. The first single from it, Dancing with Shadows, is already out on all major streaming platforms — it’s been amazing seeing how people have connected with that track already.
Who have been your greatest influences?
Personally, I grew up on Manic Street Preachers, Nirvana, and Metallica — they were huge for shaping my love of music. As a band, we have a really diverse set of influences, from Kiss and Deftones to Phil Collins, Queen, Periphery, and Sleep Token. It means we all bring something different to the table when we write, which keeps things interesting.
What first got you into music?
Music runs in my family, but one of my earliest memories was being on holiday and seeing a live band at the hotel. The drummer had this gorgeous white pearl kit that just blew my mind. After the show, he handed me his sticks — I started playing drums with them and never looked back. That moment lit the fire.
If you could collaborate with a current band or musician who would it be?
Biffy Clyro or Bring Me The Horizon would be incredible. Both bands are fearless in how they evolve their sound, and that’s something we really admire.
If you could play any festival in the world, which would you choose and why?
Download Festival is the big one for us — it’s practically a rite of passage for any rock or metal band in the UK. Rock am Ring in Germany would also be incredible — it’s such an iconic event with an amazing atmosphere.
What’s the weirdest gift you have ever received from a fan?
We’ve had some strange ones, but a pair of shoelaces and a watering can definitely takes the crown. We still have no idea why, but it made us laugh!
If you had one message for your fans, what would it be?
Thank you. Every single person who takes time to listen to our music, share it, or come to a show means the world to us. We’re so excited for you to hear the new EP and we can’t wait to see you all at the gigs soon.
If you could bring one rock star back from the dead, who would it be?
Freddie Mercury — no contest. He was a genius, an absolute one-of-a-kind performer.
What do you enjoy the most about being a musician? And what do you hate?
I love the creative process — those moments in writing sessions where all the pieces click together and you just know you’ve got something special. What I hate is seeing venues struggle. The lack of government support for grassroots music spaces is heartbreaking because they’re where bands like us cut our teeth.
If you could change one thing about the music industry, what would it be?
I’d make it more sustainable for artists — proper support for venues, fairer streaming payouts, and more opportunities for independent musicians to actually make a living from their art.
Name one of your all-time favourite albums.
Ride the Lightning by Metallica. It’s timeless.
What’s best? Vinyl, Cassettes, CDs or Downloads?
Vinyl all day long. There’s something about the warmth and depth of sound that you just can’t beat.
What’s the best gig that you have played to date?
Our homecoming show in Bridgend this year was unreal. The energy from the crowd was electric — you could feel the love in the room.
If you weren’t a musician, what else would you be doing?
I actually work as a carpenter and landscaper as well, so I’d probably lean into that full-time — but I can’t imagine a life without music in some form.
Which five people would you invite to a dinner party?
Jesus, Heisenberg, Gandhi, Indiana Jones, and Kate Beckinsale. It’d be chaotic, fascinating, and I’d just sit back with a drink and watch it unfold.
What’s next for the band?
We’ve got a busy few months ahead — the release of The Space Between Seconds, music videos for both singles, and our EP launch show. We’re also playing Hard Rock Hell in Great Yarmouth alongside Royal Republic, Steelheart, and Electric Six. It’s going to be a blast.

We love chatting with fans, so come say hi!
As an alternative to the humble sandwich, is the correct name for a round piece of bread either a Bap, a Barm, a Batch, a Bun, a Cob, a Muffin, a Roll, or a Tea Cake?
For us in South Wales, it’s usually a Roll or a Bap. Simple as that!
Thank you for your time. Is there anything else that you would like to add?
Just a massive thank you to everyone supporting live music — whether it’s streaming a song, buying a ticket, or picking up merch. Every little bit helps keep scenes like ours alive. See you in the pit!
