EMQs With DREAMLORD

Hi everyone! Welcome to another EMQs interview, this time with Greek Thrash Metallers, Dreamlord. Huge thanks to their Guitarist/ Vocalist, Babis, for taking part.

What is your name, what do you play and can you tell us a little bit about the history of the band?

Hi, my name is Babis and I am the rhythm guitarist, vocalist of the Greek Thrash Metal band Dreamlord. We were founded in 2010 and basically reactivated an older project from the ‘90s. Since our re-activation, we have released two albums. The line-up is:

Babis – Rhythm Guitar, Vocals

Nick – Drums

Christos – Bass

Yiannis – Lead Guitar.

How did you come up with your band name?

Our name came from a Septic Flesh song called “Morpheus The Dreamlord.” We heard it and it just clicked. Dark, heavy, epic. It felt perfect for the kind of music we wanted to make.

What Country / Region are you from and what is the Metal / Rock scene like there?

We’re from Athens, Greece. The scene is tight-knit but super passionate. People here love their Metal, and when you play live, you feel that energy instantly. There are amazing bands that have come out of Greece. Bands like Rotting Christ, Septicflesh, Suicidal Angels, Firewind and so many others. People here live and breathe Metal.

What is your latest release?

Our latest album is “Artificial Imprisonment” and it was released on September 12th 2025. It is self-financed and has been released in digital, CD and vinyl formats, available through our Bandcamp page, https://dreamlord.bandcamp.com/

Musically it is definitely American style Thrash, but with a modern twist. We love riffs and melodies. Lyrically it deals with sociopolitical issues, like the increasing dependence on technology and AI, individualism, political and societal corruption and environmental disaster.

Who have been your greatest influences?

Classic Thrash and Metal. Metallica, Megadeth, Slayer, Testament. The bands that made us pick up instruments and still drive our sound today.

What first got you into music?

I remember picking up a copy of “…And Justice For All” back in 1990 and being blown out of my mind. Then “Master of Puppets”discovered Iron Maiden and the rabbit hole began!

If you could collaborate with a current band or musician who would it be?

From the big ones, I would say Metallica because this band is what got me into Metal and still holds a special place in my heart. From the more modern ones, I would have to say Evile, who I think to be one of the best modern Thrash bands out there, but criminally overlooked.

If you could play any festival in the world, which would you choose and why?

Wacken Open Air. The history, the massive crowd, the energy… It’s the ultimate Metal stage. I think it would be the most amazing experience.

What’s the weirdest gift you have ever received from a fan?

Scans of old photographs of me playing with Dreamlord from the first period of the band, back in 1998. Totally unexpected and really cool to see!

If you had one message for your fans, what would it be?

Thanks for sticking with us. We wouldn’t be here without you, and we love that you feel what we’re doing.

If you could bring one rock star back from the dead, who would it be?

There’s so many, man. Lemmy, Dimebag, Warrell Dane, Chuck… But if I had to pick one, I would say Cliff Burton, just because this guy was taken so young, only 24 and I would love to see what his contribution to Metal would have been if he had more time.

What do you enjoy the most about being a musician? And what do you hate?

The best part: writing riffs, jamming, and playing live. The worst: all the boring admin, gear headaches, and the little things that distract from just making music.

If you could change one thing about the music industry, what would it be?

Make it easier for real music to get heard without getting buried in algorithms and marketing games. And all the AI slop. AI music is killing actual, authentic human creativity.

Name one of your all-time favourite albums?

…And Justice for All” is my favourite album because it just feels honest. It’s angry, tense, and kind of uncomfortable — like the band was in a bad headspace and decided to channel all of it into the music. The riffs are relentless, the songs are long and twisting, and it never lets up. Also, even though I would love to hear Jason’s bass more, the production makes it even more aggressive and cold, which I find particularly cool.

What’s best? Vinyl, Cassettes, CD’s or Downloads?

Vinyl is unbeatable for the ritual. The artwork, the liner notes, putting the record on and actually listening to it from start to finish. CDs are great too, especially if you grew up with them. They’re tangible, affordable, and still feel like a proper release you can hold in your hands. Downloads and streaming win on convenience. They let people discover music easily and take it everywhere. Honestly, each format has its place, and as long as the music connects, the format is just the vehicle.

What’s the best gig that you have played to date?

I would have to say, opening for Annihilator in Athens, back in 2019. Playing in front of a large audience, having a blast, but more importantly, watching a pro band and how they operate was a very cool experience, I think.

If you weren’t a musician, what else would you be doing?

None of us are full-time musicians — we all have other jobs to pay the bills. That’s just reality. But music is something we need in our lives, not something we do just for fun. No matter what else we’re working on, music is always there and always will be.

Which five people would you invite to a dinner party?

Lemmy, James Hetfield, Ozzy Osbourne, Bruce Dickinson and Freddy Mercury.

What’s next for the band?

Touring, playing gigs, and working on new music. Always moving forward.

Time for a very British question now. As an alternative to the humble sandwich, is the correct name for a round piece of bread common in the UK either a Bap, a Barm (or Barm Cake), a Batch, a Bun, a Cob, a Muffin, a Roll or a Tea Cake?

As a non-British person I am not very familiar with the subject, I must admit, but if I had to choose, I would say roll! We are up for a debate though!

Thank you for your time. Is there anything else that you would like to add?

Just thanks to everyone who listens, shows up, or supports us. Crank “Artificial Imprisonment” loud, and catch us live if we come to your town—we’ll make it worth it.
