Hi everyone! Welcome to another EMQs interview, this time with Russian Death Metal band, Insect Inside. Huge thanks to their founder and drummer, Daniil, for taking part.
What is your name, what do you play and can you tell us a little bit about the history of the band?
My name is Daniil and I’m a drummer\founder of Insect Inside. The band was formed in small town Zlatoust in 2017 by 3 people – me, guitarist Kirill and vocalist Dmitry. We wanted to play heavy music like Kraanium, Disfigurement Of Flesh, Suffocation etc.
How did you come up with your band name?
It just came as an inspiration and I thought this name would be perfect for a Death Metal band.
What Country / Region are you from and what is the Metal / Rock scene like there?
Russia/Chelyabinsk region/Zlatoust. The band’s lineup is different now, but when we lived in Zlatoust, no one played heavy metal there. However, before that, our city had a very strong Black Metal scene.
What is your latest release?
Single “Carnal Ruins” from our upcoming album.
Who have been your greatest influences?
Classic Brutal Death Metal / Slam bands like: Dying Fetus, Cannibal Corpse, Relics OF Humanity, Devourment, Suffocation, Cerebral Incubation, Traumatomy
What first got you into music?
Classic rock music like AC/DC, Black Sabbath, Kiss etc.
If you could collaborate with a current band or musician who would it be?
Bridget Lynch (Stabbing vocalist), Terrance Hobbs (Suffocation guitarist), Matti Way.
If you could play any festival in the world, which would you choose and why?
Obscene Extreme, Lollapalooza, Wacken Open Air, Berlin Death Fest.
What’s the weirdest gift you have ever received from a fan?
Dead spider.
If you had one message for your fans, what would it be?
Listen to music by album.
If you could bring one rock star back from the dead, who would it be?
John Bonham.
What do you enjoy the most about being a musician? And what do you hate?
To destroy the stage, spend all my money on this.
If you could change one thing about the music industry, what would it be?
Nothing. Everything that happens happens for the best.
Name one of your all-time favourite albums?
Devourment – “Molesting The Decapitated”, Relics Of Humanity – “Obscuration” | Deicide – “In The Minds Of Evil”.
What’s best? Vinyl, Cassettes, CD’s or Downloads?
All of them!
What’s the best gig that you have played to date?
The Shallow Grave Festival was our best performance of all that we have seen.
If you weren’t a musician, what else would you be doing?
I would become an athlete.
Which five people would you invite to a dinner party?
Donald Trump, Jeffrey Epstein, Ruben Rosas, Vladimir Putin and my friend Yura.
What’s next for the band?
Writing some good death metal and playing shows outside Of Russia.
Time for a very British question now. As an alternative to the humble sandwich, is the correct name for a round piece of bread common in the UK either a Bap, a Barm (or Barm Cake), a Batch, a Bun, a Cob, a Muffin, a Roll or a Tea Cake?
I don’t know, man, but in Russian it is called BUTERBROD.
