EMQs with Electric Originals
EMQs with Electric Originals
Hi everyone! Welcome to another EMQs, this time with Brazilian Hard Rock / Punk band, Electric Originals. Huge thanks to vocalist Renato BT for taking part.
What is your name, what do you play and can you tell us a little bit about the history of the band?
My name is Renato BT, I’m a vocalist, composer, lyricist and phonographic producer. Electric Originals arose from the need that Edu (Guitar) and I had to electrify the sound of Duo Originals that was our initial project, influenced by Dark Country, Hard Rock and a pinch of Grunge. Then comes Electric Originals with influences from Hard Rock, Rock N’ Roll and an acid pinch of Punk Rock. The band is formed by Edu Botelho on guitar, Jefferson Cristiano on bass, Thiago Ribeiro on drums and me on vocals!
How did you come up with your band name?
As we were Duo Originals, we decided to put the name Electric Originals in this new phase, but it also has another meaning.
Electric Originals refers to the first spark that came out of the socket and did not light a lamp, set fire to an amplifier. It is the lightning that fell not on the ground, but on the strings of a guitar, a bass, a drum set and a microphone. It is the primordial thunder that, instead of announcing rain, announced the rock that would transform the world.
That being is the Electric Original. He didn’t learn rock, he’s the electricity that rock needed to exist. When it plays, the speakers spit sparks. Each chord is a controlled short circuit. Each solo, a bolt that chose a crooked path and each vocal is the primal thunder itself asking for passage.
It is the rumble that does not wake up neighbors, it wakes up revolutions. It’s the original spark that, instead of disappearing, decided to become the sound, sweat and soul of rock’n’roll.
What Country / Region are you from and what is the Metal / Rock scene like there?
We are from Uberaba-MG, Brazil, The scene is very weak with few bands and very few spaces for shows. It’s a city and a region which is typical of the “Sertaneja” region (a kind of Brazilian Country Music). To do shows, we organize our own events or we have to go out to capitals or other states like São Paulo which are nearby.
What is your latest release? (Album, EP, Single, Video)
We released three singles from our album that will be released in early August. They are ‘We All We Are’, ‘Levanta e Vai’ and ‘I wanna Love You’; these last two came out video clips that are also on Youtube!
Who have been your greatest influences?
I will mention what directly influenced this work with Electric Originals, which refers to the young dreamer who between 1989 and 1991 in high school (at that time I was between 1st high school and 3rd high school), drew in his notebook a “Hero” who did not want to attend biology or chemistry classes and wanted to electrify people with the rock he was listening to at that time (I have these notebooks to this day with several drawings, that influenced me to create the cover art of the Electric Originals album in this same notebook with this “Being Electrified” that I created in my imagination at that time and now in 2026 I am bringing it to life, even after having been part of so many bands like John No Arms, that was a great dedication for many years of my life).
Come on, I’ll try to put it in chronological order from 89 to 91:
Metallica – “And Justice For All”,
Alice Cooper ´”Trash”,
WASP – “The Headless Children”,
Bad Religion – “No Control”,
Ramones – “Brain Drain”,
Motley Crue – “Dr Feelgood”,
Sepultura – “Beneath The Remains”,
Faith No More – “The Real Thing”,
Testament – “Practice What Your Preach”,
Agnostic Front – “Live CBGB”,
Suicidal Tendencies – “Lights, Camera, Revolution”,
Megadeth – “Rust In Peace”,
Judas Priest – “Painkiller”,
Anthrax – “Persistence Of Time”,
Bad Religion – “Against The Grain”,
Pantera – “Cowboys From Hell”,
Slayer – “Seasons In The Abyss”,
Metallica – “Metallica”, Motorhead – “1916”,
Red Hot Chilli Peppers – “Blood Sugar Sex Magic”,
Nirvana – “Nevermind”,
Ozzy Osbourne – “No More Tears”,
Soundgarden – “Badmotorfinger”,
TSOL – “Live ‘91”,
Pearl Jam – “Ten”,
Infectious Grooves – “The Plague That Makes Your Booty Move… It’s The Infectious Grooves”
Sepultura – “Arise”.
Even though I have so many influences in my life from so many bands and artists, today I feel the need to quote exactly what I wrote above because it was what I was listening to at that time and directed all this work to this album that is so special to me and also to the band!
What first got you into music?
I don’t know how to answer, I was born with this in my chest! The first time I heard Queen and AC DC at the age of 9, I was infected or contaminated, it messed with my molecules that churned and never returned to the original lineup! At the age of 13, I went on stage for the first time in high school to play Brazilian rock covers and I never stopped singing.
If you could collaborate with a current band or musician who would it be?
Certainly the Andreas Kisser (Sepultura) that I admire so much.
If you could play any festival in the world, which would you choose and why?
Hellfest for sure, as it has room for bands of different genres and I believe Electric Originals would fit well on the Warzone stage!
What’s the weirdest gift you have ever received from a fan?
Once with John No Arms, after a show at the TV tower in Brasilia, I received a pair of panties from a girl, which generated a very big fight with my girlfriend at the time. I don’t have that girlfriend anymore, but the panties I keep to this day!
If you had one message for your fans, what would it be?
“Look, nothing makes sense to you anymore
There’s nothing more to talk about
There’s nothing else to do
Look nothing else makes sense to you
I’ll show you this new world
I’m going to electrify you”
If you could bring one rock star back from the dead, who would it be?
Absolutely Lemmy!
What do you enjoy the most about being a musician? And what do you hate?
What I like most about having a band is being able to meet my accomplices and make a sound for us even in the rehearsal, we usually rehearse as if it were a show, but the show is ours! What I hate most is being disrespected in houses or events with bad equipment and amateurism.
If you could change one thing about the music industry, what would it be?
It would change the charts that are based on who spends the most money to put their canned artists of dubious taste at the top!
Name one of your all-time favourite albums?
Judas Priest – “Sad Wings Of Destiny”.
What’s best? Vinyl, Cassettes, CDs or Downloads?
Some friends will hate me for this answer, but I think the CD is the best media and with the best audio quality!
What’s the best gig that you have played to date?
It was with John No Arms, at Grito Rock in Planaltina in 2013.
If you weren’t a musician, what else would you be doing?
He would probably be a plastic artist and would be painting pictures and murals.
Which five people would you invite to a dinner party?
Adreas Kisser, Max Cavalera, Igor Cavalera, Paulo Jr, Jairo Guedes and João Gordo.
What’s next for the band?
We are about to release our album which is called “Eletrificado” and another video clip that we are filming of the song ‘YYYHHHAAA’.
What Social Media / Website links do you use to get your music out to people?

There’s a long-standing food-based debate here in the UK. And we’d like your help. So… A Jaffa cake – is it a cake or a biscuit? Discuss!
It’s definitely a cake! I had the pleasure of eating it when a friend of mine from Uberaba who lives in London made the recipe at her family’s house here and I just loved it!
Thank you for your time. Is there anything else that you would like to add?
Thank you for the opportunity of this interview! I’m never going to stop making rock because that’s like breathing to me, it’s what keeps me alive!
