“Have you cried listening to the intro of Internal Peace?” This question I’ve made for the band immediately popped into my mind in the first seconds of my audition of this album. Not only because the original song ‘Internal Peace’, with harp and acoustic guitar in its intro, is as beautiful as this new one, but also because of all the magic surrounding this material. Everything started with an album recorded before the lockdown of COVID-19 that waited until 2023 to be released, and we are talking about “Karma”. As usual, Kamala hit the road again, in Europe, to promote it, but this time something new happened for these three musicians. A sequence of shows with an Orchestra playing together, in France!
These shows were so important that they became part of the “Diabolus in Musica” exposition on the “Philharmonie de Paris” (also in France) and for what I could see, it is a huge thing for a band to be exposed there. The next step was simple. To put it out in some way. The Arverne Metal Orchestra recorded all the songs from the set list played in these shows, and the band recorded their parts in Brazil, but in one take, like a live album, but now letting the Thrash Metal sound majestic.
The songs chosen were totally based on what I consider the true Kamala era, with the albums “Mantra” (2015), “Eyes of Creation” (2018), and “Karma” (2023), and I mention with all respect to all eras of the band, but since 2015 the band has been established with just 3 members, and most of the great Europeans tours came after that, where they became huge, especially in France. This change for just one guitar has opened space to vocal interaction between the guitarist Raphael Olmos and the Bassist Allan Malavasi, also opened space to have a clear audition of their instruments.
This detail may have also opened a considerable gap to an orchestra in a way to create good arrangements, as we hear in the cadenced song ‘My Religion’. Another song that gave goosebumps was ‘Fear’; this one, because the drummer Isabela Moraes started to put clean vocals on the songs since the last album, and this track has a very deep and sentimental meaning in the lyrics. Hearing her voice in the chorus, and also the calm solo bass part in this song, with this amazing orchestra complementing the atmosphere, is something that makes every band’s fans proud.
The most brutal songs, such as ‘Forgive the Weak ’, also earned an extra punch, something that I couldn’t believe was possible. You can feel all the emotions, but mainly by the idea of doing something like a live concert. It takes out that crystal and soulless vibe when you do everything perfectly in the studio.
The answer is “Yes”. A couple of the band’s members cried when they heard the intro of ‘Internal Peace’ during their first concert with the Orchestra. “Par Delà Les Frontières” is more than a band that is always evolving and conquering great things around the world; it’s like when a father or a mother sees their kids getting older and becoming greater than ever. Won’t you cry seeing that, either?
