EMQ’s With IronWrath
EMQ’s With IronWrath
Hi everyone! Welcome to another EMQs interview, this time with USA based Cinematic heavy Metal band, IronWrath. Huge thanks to their Drummer, C.G. Ryche, and Rhythm Guitarist/ Backing Vocalist, Steve Bell, for taking part.
What is your name, what do you play and can you tell us a little bit about the history of the band?
C.G. Ryche
My name is C.G. Ryche, I’m the band’s drummer, producer, and resident filmmaker.
Steve Bell
My name is Steve Bell, I am the bands rhythm guitarist and backup vocalist. The story starts joining a band with Sean Silas, called Free Will. From there we reformed into a band called Holy Right, where we picked up C.G.. Two years later the three of us plus the bass player formed into Iron Wrath in 1988. The band disbanded in 1990 for personal reasons, but the three of us remained friends through the years where we picked it back up in 2021.
How did you come up with your band name?
C.G. Ryche
Iron wrath really derived from a different band back in the 80’s. We basically threw names in the hat and Iron Wrath really seemed to represent the band’s branding and focus. And that was to wage war against the tyrannies against mankind.
What Country / Region are you from and what is the Metal / Rock scene like there?
C.G. Ryche
The band is based out of Southern California, and though this is where the heavy metal scene really began in Hollywood back in the 80’s, it has really died out since then.
Steve Bell
Yeah, the Metal rock scene currently is not kind to unestablished bands.
What is your latest release?
C.G. Ryche
Our debut album is called “Master Storyteller” and it contains 13 songs that will take you down a rabbit hole of imagination!
Steve Bell
Also, the Band has a new music video coming out October 11th called “Tyranny!”
Who have been your greatest influences?
Steve Bell
I’d have to go with, the Beatles, Black Sabbath, Pink Floyd, and Queensryche in that order.
C.G. Ryche
Musically, I’d start with Pink Floyd, Peter Gabriel, Tool, Whitesnake, Zappa, some White Zombie, Manson, etc. As a drummer I’d go with Phil Collins, Jerry Marotta, Tommy Aldridge, Alex Acuna, and Terry Bozzio.
What first got you into music?
Steve Bell
My parents got me a guitar when I was about 8 years old. I am left-handed, never knew how to tune it, and basically played upside down which led to me not really advancing. When I was 21, some friends asked if I ever played an instrument. Long story short, this led to me purchasing a Peavey amp and electric guitar, a white Hondo Flying V. This was the start of my journey before meeting Sean Silas and forming Free Will.
C.G. Ryche
I attended the 1983 US festival where I saw Ozzy Osbourne perform. His drummer was Tommy Aldridge who did a drum solo that blew my mind. I knew from that moment I was gonna play drums for a living.
Q. If you could collaborate with a current band or musician who would it be?
C.G. Ryche
That’s a very interesting question, I would have to say Roger Waters or Phil Collins.
Steve Bell
Hands down David Gilmore
If you could play any festival in the world, which would you choose and why?
C.G. Ryche
HellFest in Clisson, France would be the great gig to play. I think it’s one of the most prestigious festivals for metal on the planet. I think we would contribute a lot to a show like that as well.
What’s the weirdest gift you have ever received from a fan?
Steve Bell
I’ll plead the 5th.
C.G. Ryche
Lol, I’m going with Steve on that answer.
If you had one message for your fans, what would it be?
C.G. Ryche
God has a plan for your life and do the right thing to your fellow man.
Steve Bell
Support metal music, both local and national.
If you could bring one rock star back from the dead, who would it be?
Steve Bell
Randy Rhoads.
C.G. Ryche
Definitely, Randy Rhoads.
What do you enjoy the most about being a musician? And what do you hate?
C.G. Ryche
Inspiring people is the best. The time it takes to create and perform away from family I hate the most.
Steve Bell
I enjoy making music and the feelings it evokes. I don’t have anything to hate about music.
If you could change one thing about the music industry, what would it be?
Steve Bell
Have stronger and more entertaining channels to reach fans without selling your soul.
C.G. Ryche
No more free music!
Name one of your all-time favourite albums?
C.G. Ryche
Peter Gabriel – Security, Pink Floyd – The Wall and Dark Side of the Moon.
Steve Bell
I don’t think there’s a better album than Pink Floyd’s Dark Side of the Moon.
What’s best? Vinyl, Cassettes, CD’s or Downloads?
C.G. Ryche
I like Vinyl and CDs.
Steve Bell

What’s the best gig that you have played to date?

Time for a very British question now. As an alternative to the humble sandwich, is the correct name for a round piece of bread common in the UK either a Bap, a Barm (or Barm Cake), a Batch, a Bun, a Cob, a Muffin, a Roll or a Tea Cake?
Steve Bell
No clue?
C.G. Ryche
Not sure, but you’re making me hungry.
Thank you for your time. Is there anything else that you would like to add?C.G. Ryche
Please check out our website and our new music video coming out October 11th and share it with your friends. On behalf of IronWrath, keep supporting metal… thank you in advance!!!
