He’s quite the crooner, and as proved by his “Tremonti Sings Sinatra” album released last year, the Alter Bridge guitarist isn’t afraid to spread those wings and move into areas where most metal musicians fear to tread. It’s only really the likes of Dee Snider and King Diamond who have made successful forays into Christmas music. If you think that Rob Halford’s “Christmas” album was any good for example, you might need help.

Now, I am not a big fan of Christmas. Full stop. My job allows me to work autonomously and away from any office environment. I hate those forced parties and giving of presents doesn’t happen in our house. So, it might have been a strange move to grab this for review a mere nine-days before the big day.

And yet there is something strangely appealing about hearing Tremonti, complete with orchestra and big band belting out those Rat Pack era classics. Throw in the fact that this is being released through his own Take A Chance for Charity with 100% of the profit going to the National Down Syndrome Society www.ndss.org  and it’s had to dislike this release. Yes, it is a little cringy, as Tremonti sings ‘Jingle Bells’, and ‘The First Noel’, but his smooth tones on ‘The Most Wonderful Time of the Year’ and ‘The Christmas Song’ certainly allowed me to drift back to a more innocent time when presents, food, and excitement filled the imagination.

This isn’t something I would ever buy, but if you are confronted by Heart FM on Christmas Day, then I suggest that this is an album that you should stream as a perfect alternative. There’s even a new song written by Tremonti; a saccharine coated ballad ‘Christmas Morning’ that finishes off the album. It pales in comparison to the classics included on this release but fits in nicely overall with the general feel.

Even a cold-hearted bastard like me was warmed by this release. You will be too.
