EMQ’s With WOVEN MAN
EMQ’s With WOVEN MAN
Hi everyone! Welcome to another EMQs interview, this time with UK Melodic Rock band, Woven Man. Huge thanks to their Guitarist, Mark ‘Wolfie’ Pitts. Huge thanks to him for taking part.
What is your name, what do you play and can you tell us a little bit about the history of the band?
My names Mark ‘Wolfie’ Pitts the other dudes call me that because I am hairy!
Woven Man was conceived by Lee “Leroy” Davies and rooted amongst the Celtic mountains of the southern Welsh valleys back in early 2015. After an extensive history on guitars spanning many a year in many a band (Acrimony, Black Eye Riot and Lifer to name a few) Lee set out to create a new project, aspiring for something different, original, a little more organic and freer than previous endeavours.
With a nonchalant disregard for the boundaries of genres and a very liberal, free flowing approach to writing, Woven Man is generated with the collaborational freedom of all of its members. Emanating from a core forged from the weightiest of heavy metals, surrounded by a vast maelstrom of diversity and an eclectic plethora of influences, all of which are purposefully and meaningfully integrated into our sound. Versatility and a tendency for genre traversing enables us to tactfully and respectfully fit into many a music scene.
All in all our sound is heavy, low driven, harmonic, melodic rock!
How did you come up with your band name?
Well that’s quite an easy one to answer, the name was conceived because we all come from differing musical backgrounds including Stoner, Alt Rock, Grunge, Prog Rock and Doom, so it seemed fitting to weave it all together, hence Woven Man.
What Country / Region are you from and what is the Metal / Rock scene like there?
We are firmly camped in the back waters of the Swansea area, apart from the drummer who now resides in sunny Rochdale. There are some good bands around the area, the only downside is that there is very little money or support for neutering spawning talent which is a shame as there is plenty of new music to be heard out there!
What is your latest release? (Album, EP, Single, Video)
We have a second album entitled ‘Sardonic Waters’ which was released Nov 23 through (Off Your Rocka Recordings/ HRH) and a conceptual album we are very proud of!
Who have been your greatest influences?
As a band we have many influences from Sabs, High on Fire, COC, to Torche, Baroness & Alice in Chains.
What first got you into music?
Just feeling the energy being part of something, I grew up listening to my old man’s records which he would blast out, like “The Ruts or George Thorogood and the Destroyers”, and then I turned to Maiden and AC/DC and it just went from there.
If you could collaborate with a current band or musician who would it be?
I don’t know how to answer that question, I only know Woven Man anything else would just feel weird ha ha.
If you could play any festival in the world, which would you choose and why?
I’d play any festival, big or small, I love the festival vibe…………
What’s the weirdest gift you have ever received from a fan?
Not sure if I’ve ever been given something weird, though I do remember turning up for a gig once where there was a pissed guy talking to a live frog on the bar, how weird is that.
If you had one message for your fans, what would it be?
Woven Man are awaking once again – watch this space! Looking forward to tearing it up with some good ole fashioned hearty riffs.
If you could bring one rock star back from the dead, who would it be?
I’d bring back Cliff Burton because I saw him as a kid a week before he died… a real tragedy, he was way too cool and young to go under the bus poor bastard.
What do you enjoy the most about being a musician? And what do you hate?
I love playing live, feeling the rumbling of the amps behind you, just the whole collective energy is a powerful thing… makes you feel alive. The only downside is packing up and lugging the gear around once we’ve done a show!
If you could change one thing about the music industry, what would it be?
I think the industry needs to wake up and look to pour money back into grass root venues, setting up promotion agencies, offering guidance, support and infrastructure to bands who are struggling to be heard.
Name one of your all-time favourite albums?
Ohh there have been many a classic album, but for me it would have to be “Dirt” (Alice in Chains).
What’s best? Vinyl, Cassettes, CDs or Downloads?
CDs for me.
What’s the best gig that you have played to date?
The best sound we have had was probably a little venue in Swansea called the Bunkhouse, it was insane, but we have had some great gigs over the past few years including HRH Psych Fest, Lizardfest and over in Cork in Ireland.
If you weren’t a musician, what else would you be doing?
I’d be doing my job ha ha!
Which five people would you invite to a dinner party?
Vinny, Farmer Jim, Tommo, Cardi & Chris the Doc from BRASSIC, what a blast that would be!
What’s next for the band?
We are looking to line up a couple of shows in the coming months, and are playing HRH Spring-break next March. In the meantime, we will be looking to continue writing in preparation for the third album, and just raising the profile of the band further… everyone needs to hear our material and be infected ha ha.
What Social Media / Website links do you use to get your music out to people?
You will find us on the usual platforms such as You Tube, Spotify. I have also included some links below:

There’s a long-standing food-based debate here in the UK. And we’d like your help. So… A Jaffa cake – is it a cake or a biscuit? Discuss!
I’m a firm believer that it is definitely a cake, as biscuits generally have a harder base… Am I not wrong on that one? ha ha!
