EMQ’s With ABZY
EMQ’s With ABZY
Hi everyone! Welcome to another EMQs interview, this time with Kuwaiti solo artist, Abzy. Huge thanks to them for taking part.
What is your name, what do you play and can you tell us a little bit about the history of the band?
My name is Abzy, and I’m a solo artist—singer, songwriter, and producer.
How did you come up with your band name?
The name Abzy comes from a nickname my family gave me when I was a kid. My name is Abbas, and my family used to call me Abbasy, which eventually got shortened to Abzy.
What Country / Region are you from and what is the Metal / Rock scene like there?
I’m from Kuwait, and unfortunately, the Metal scene is pretty much dead here. That’s why I’m
focusing on expanding my audience to grow as an artist and hopefully be able to tour abroad.
What is your latest release? (Album, EP, Single, Video)
I just released my debut 10-track album, and it has a great mix of tunes, offering a variety of sounds and vibes.
Who have been your greatest influences?
I’ve been influenced by many bands, but I grew up listening to Slipknot, Linkin Park, Mudvayne, and many more. There are so many others I can’t think of right now, but those were definitely key in shaping my sound and style.
What first got you into music?
I’d say a lot of my inspiration comes from pain—how angry and frustrated I am at the world for growing up in a broken family and not receiving the love I needed. Those emotions have shaped a lot of my music.
If you could collaborate with a current band or musician who would it be?
I’d love to collaborate with bands like Bad Omens, Silent Planet, The Plot In You, and many other amazing artists. The potential for creative synergy with such talented bands would be incredible!
If you could play any festival in the world, which would you choose and why?
Definitely, Warped Tour—especially now that it’s making a comeback! It would be an amazing opportunity to perform and connect with fans in such an iconic setting.
What’s the weirdest gift you have ever received from a fan?
I’ve never received any weird gifts from a fan yet, haha!
If you had one message for your fans, what would it be?
Thank you for being loyal, thank you for listening, and thank you for joining me on this amazing journey!
If you could bring one rock star back from the dead, who would it be?
If I could bring back a rock star from the dead, it would be Mitch Lucker. His talent and impact on the metal scene were immense, and his presence is truly missed.
What do you enjoy the most about being a musician? And what do you hate?
What I enjoy most about being a musician is creating art from nothing—taking an idea or thought and turning it into something beautiful. What I dislike, though, is that I haven’t had the chance to perform enough shows yet.
If you could change one thing about the music industry, what would it be?
The hate and beef between musicians, especially those who compare themselves to each other, is something I don’t understand. As humans, we shouldn’t compare ourselves to anyone else. Instead, we should only compare ourselves to our own progress—evolving as individuals and striving to be the best version of ourselves.
Name one of your all-time favourite albums?
“Take Me Back to Eden” is my favorite album. It’s an incredible piece of work that resonates deeply
with me.
What’s best? Vinyl, Cassettes, CDs or Downloads?
They’re all amazing and valuable in their own way, so I can’t decide which one is the best. Each
one brings something unique to the table.
What’s the best gig that you have played to date?
The best gig I’ve done was on December 7th, 2023, at Riyadh XPMusic. It was an unforgettable
experience!
If you weren’t a musician, what else would you be doing?
If I weren’t a musician, I honestly have no idea what I’d be doing. It’s something I keep asking
myself, but music is what feels right for me.
Which five people would you invite to a dinner party?
If I could invite anyone to dinner, I’d choose Corey Taylor, Chester Bennington, Mitch Lucker, Oli Sykes, and Noah Sebastian. It would be an incredible conversation with such talented and influential figures in the music world.
What’s next for the band?
What’s next for me is to expand my fan base and keep making more music. There’s always more
to create and share with the world!

Time for a very British question now. As an alternative to the humble sandwich, is the correct name for a round piece of bread common in the UK either a Bap, a Barm (or Barm Cake), a Batch, a Bun, a Cob, a Muffin, a Roll, or a Tea Cake?
Tea Cake
Thank you for your time. Is there anything else that you would like to add?
