Ok, so this starts with a disclaimer: We don’t usually review singles, because we have so many album and EP reviews coming in that we just don’t have the capacity.

But, occasionally we’ll make an exception to this, and this is one of those occasions. Gloom 49 are a newly formed Modern Metalcore band from Deeside, and their lead vocalist, Callum Smith, is the former vocalist of hugely popular local band, and one of my firm favourites, In Depths. The band also includes former In Depths Guitarist, Connor, and Bassist, Troy, along with former Stand Silent drummer, Lewis. So these guys are seasoned musicians.

I was really, really happy to see that they were performing again, and I really had to review this, their debut single, because I knew it was going to be great.

What we have here is really solid, and crushingly heavy Metalcore, with all the elements you’d expect. Technical, Djenty guitar work, that’s downtuned to within an inch of its life, rumbling Bass lines, samples that give the whole thing extra depth, hard-hitting drums, and vocals that kind of remind me of Korn’s Johnathan Davis, from the good old days, but a little more unhinged and with more oomph. There’s brees and bluerghs and purposed feedback that butts into your brain like a knife through butter, making this track a punishing introduction to what I have no doubt will be one of this area’s finest Metal bands very quickly. The only thing about the track I’m not keen on is the outro. But I’m guessing that might make more sense when it’s put with other tracks on their debut EP/ Album.

So, guys, hurry up and release more; then I can do a proper review!
