Mangata Festival – A Reaction

There’s a multitude of metal and rock festivals taking place in the UK this summer, especially in the East Midlands area. After all, Download Festival always draws in huge crowds approaching 6 figures whilst Bloodstock Open Air has already sold out for weekend tickets and did several months ago! As impressive as the likes of Sleep Token, Gojira, Green Day, and Trivium are, who are headlining their respective nights on their festivals, maybe being in a field with tens of thousands of others just isn’t for you. With the cost of living rising and the subsequent cost of tickets and beer, maybe said festival are just out of your budget. If a city centre location with access to all amenities at a fraction of the cost where the quality of the artists is not compromised appeals you more, let me tell you about Mangata Festival!

Having sold out last year, they will likely do so again this year given that they’ve gone so hard on a crazy stacked and varied lineup.

Those looking to thrown down and bust some shapes in the pit will want to check out Overthrown, Godeth, Black Coast and Waterlines, whilst anybody at Techfest 2023 will know all about The Five Hundred and their stunning live performance.

The fans of the progressive and more left field side of music will find themselves either at Blanket, Pheonix Lake, and Esoterica who add some firepower at the high end of the bill.

Those in touch with the UK black metal scene will be satiated by the offering of The Infernal Sea, Wolvencrown, and local blackened-thrashers Devastator. Ante Inferno also make an appearance having released new record “Death’s Soliloquy” at the back end of last year whilst Abduction will also be in town and by the time they do so will have new material out.

After their storming appearances at Bloodstock Open Air last year, Desert Storm will bring earth-shattering stoner-doom riffs whilst it’ll be time to let loose and party with the pirate-based antics of Red Rum!

All of the day’s festivities will be The Raven Age. Featuring the son of Steve Harris, legendary bassist for Iron Maiden, the British NWOBHM standouts have carved their own legacy having toured the world with the likes of Tremonti, and Killswitch Engage, and will add some legitimacy and star power to this emerging festival.

How can so many bands be in one venue? Well, Mangata will take advantage of so many high quality music venues being within literally a minute walk of each other in a multi venue set up. At only £40, this really is a steal and absurd value for money!

So, if you didn’t manage to get a Bloodstock ticket, strongly consider heading down to Mangata this summer. Be quick as this WILL sell out.
