EMQ’s With The Red Crow
EMQ’s With The Red Crow
Hi everyone! Welcome to another EMQs interview, this time with Brazilian/ Portuguese Stoner Metal band, The Red Crow. Huge thanks to them for taking part.
What is your name, what do you play and can you tell us a little bit about the history of the band?
We are The Red Crow, a Stoner Metal band bringing heavy riffs, dark atmospheres, and raw energy. The band started as a failed attempt to be a Queens of the Stone Age cover band — thankfully, that didn’t work out, and we ended up creating our own sound. Over time, we blended our influences into something unique, mixing existential dread with stories of zombies, aliens, and demons.
How did you come up with your band name?
The name “The Red Crow” came from a mix of imagery and symbolism. Crows are often seen as omens or messengers, and the red adds a sense of danger, chaos, and intensity — much like our music.
What Country / Region are you from and what is the Metal / Rock scene like there?
We come from Brazil. The band was originally founded in Porto Alegre by Christiano Vieira, but in 2022, he moved to Portugal and rebuilt The Red Crow here. The Metal and Rock scene in both countries has strong underground roots. In Brazil, there’s a passionate community that keeps heavy music alive despite mainstream trends. In Portugal, the scene is smaller but dedicated, with great festivals and a solid fan base for heavy music.
What is your latest release? (Album, EP, Single, Video)
Our latest release is “Spellbound”, our debut album, which dropped in January. It’s a mix of crushing riffs, eerie atmospheres, and themes that explore the darker side of existence.
Who have been your greatest influences?
We take inspiration from bands like Red Fang, The Sword, Black Sabbath, Nirvana, and Motörhead. Each of them brought something unique to heavy music, whether it’s groove, rawness, or pure attitude.
What first got you into music?
The first time we heard a loud, distorted guitar, it was like an addiction. Whether it was Sabbath’s doom, Nirvana’s raw energy, or Motörhead’s speed, we knew we had to pick up instruments and make some noise.
If you could collaborate with a current band or musician, who would it be?
Collaborating with someone like Brant Bjork or Matt Pike (High on Fire, Sleep) would be insane. Their sound and vision align with the kind of heavy, groovy chaos we love.
If you could play any festival in the world, which would you choose and why?
Freak Valley Fest or Desertfest would be killer! The energy, the crowd, and the sheer amount of heavy music make them the perfect places for The Red Crow.
What’s the weirdest gift you have ever received from a fan?
Someone once gave us a handmade action figure of a zombie crow covered in blood. It was creepy, but also really cool.
If you had one message for your fans, what would it be?
Stay heavy, stay weird, and never let the fire inside you burn out.
If you could bring one rock star back from the dead, who would it be?
Lemmy. No question. The world needs more Lemmy.#
What do you enjoy the most about being a musician? And what do you hate?
The best part is creating something that connects with people and playing it loud as hell on stage. The worst part? The business side of things—having to deal with algorithms instead of just making music.
If you could change one thing about the music industry, what would it be?
More focus on real musicians and bands instead of trends and industry politics.
Name one of your all-time favourite albums?
Master of Reality – Black Sabbath.
What’s best? Vinyl, Cassettes, CDs, or Downloads?
K7 for the experience, but streaming for convenience.
What’s the best gig that you have played to date?
One of our best gigs was when we played a small underground festival at Vigo Spain, and the crowd was insane —mosh pits, headbanging, and total chaos.
If you weren’t a musician, what else would you be doing?
Probably playing video games, working on cars, or doing something music-related anyway.
Which five people would you invite to a dinner party?
Lemmy, Quentin Tarantino, Tony Iommi, Dave Grohl, and Marilyn Mason.
What’s next for the band?
More gigs, more heavy riffs, and maybe a new release sooner than people expect.

Time for a very British question now. As an alternative to the humble sandwich, is the correct name for a round piece of bread common in the UK either a Bap, a Barm (or Barm Cake), a Batch, a Bun, a Cob, a Muffin, a Roll or a Tea Cake?
We’ll go with “Bun” because it sounds the most metal.
Thank you for your time. Is there anything else that you would like to add?
Thanks for having us! Keep supporting underground music, and we’ll see you in the pit.
