Hi everyone! Welcome to another EMQs interview, this time with Brazilian Hard Rock/ Heavy Metal band, Gueppardo. Huge thanks to their Guitarist, Pery Rodriguez, for taking part.
What is your name, what do you play and can you tell us a little bit about the history of the band?
My name is Pery Rodriguez and I play guitar in Gueppardo. We formed the band in 2007 and have released an EP and 4 albums, namely: “Instinto Animal”, 2009, “Fronteira Final”, 2015, “Execução Sumária”, 2019, “I am the law”, 2021 and “Power lines”, 2023.
How did you come up with your band name?
We wanted to make a fast sound, and we paid homage to the fastest animal on the planet, the two P’s are the initials of mine, and my twin, who played bass.
What Country / Region are you from and what is the Metal / Rock scene like there?
We are from the extreme south of Brazil, things are difficult here, but we have a music scene that tries to survive.
What is your latest release? (Album, EP, Single, Video)
It’s “Power Lines” and was released on CD by Classic Metal. We also recorded a video of this song in an abandoned gas station, inspired by the movie Terminator.
Who have been your greatest influences?
Dio, Accept, Malmsteen, Michael Schenker, Loudness etc
What first got you into music?
I always wanted to be a musician and play the guitar, at home we listened to a lot of Rock and Roll, and I had records since I was a child.
If you could collaborate with a current band or musician who would it be?
There are so many, but I would like to record with Dio, if he were here.
If you could play any festival in the world, which would you choose and why?
I think in Wacken, because of its grandeur and visibility.
What’s the weirdest gift you have ever received from a fan?
They have already given us flowers and chocolates, among other things.
If you had one message for your fans, what would it be?
I’m still here just for the fans, they’re all that matters
If you could bring one rock star back from the dead, who would it be?
Surely Dio, the only one
What do you enjoy the most about being a musician? And what do you hate?
I love being on stage, being with people who love my music. The worst part is dealing with producers and arrogant people in general.
If you could change one thing about the music industry, what would it be?
I would change how poorly they pay artists and how they treat little-known bands.
Name one of your all-time favourite albums?
BEATLES, “Rubber Soul”

What’s the best gig that you have played to date?
We did a lot of great shows, as Gueppardo is a road band. I remember some of them, more of the situations – once we were carried by the audience, it was in Buenos Aires.
If you weren’t a musician, what else would you be doing?
If I wasn’t a musician, I would be something related to music, like a guitar technician.

Kip Winger, Dio, Keanu Reeves, Michael Schenker and Jim Carrey
What’s next for the band?
We are working on a new album, and we continue to play live and promote “Power Lines”.

Time for a very British question now. As an alternative to the humble sandwich, is the correct name for a round piece of bread common in the UK either a Bap, a Barm (or Barm Cake), a Batch, a Bun, a Cob, a Muffin, a Roll ,or a Tea Cake?
I know very little about it, but I think it’s barm cake!
