EMQ’s With LUTHER

Hi everyone! Welcome to another EMQs interview, this time with German Alt Metallers, Luther. Huge thanks to their Vocalist, Leo, for taking part.

What is your name, what do you play and can you tell us a little bit about the history of the band?

Hi dear Ever Metal readers! My name is Leo Luther, and I am the vocalist of LUTHER. We officially formed in 2024, but we had known each other a bit longer than that. We were all playing in different metal bands in Berlin, and eventually we started gravitating towards one another.

How did you come up with your band name?

What we liked about “Luther” is that it sounds cool and is also a real name.

What Country / Region are you from and what is the Metal / Rock scene like there?

We are all immigrants in Germany, and we live and work in Berlin. Here, the Metal scene is on fire: there are lots of festivals, concerts, opportunities, and cool bands. The only downside is that, given how many cool bands there are, it’s very difficult to get gigs or special attention.

What is your latest release? (Album, EP, Single, Video)

Our latest release is the single ‘Next Time Send a Killer’.

Who have been your greatest influences?

Our debut album will showcase our appreciation for bands such as Greyhaven, System of a Down, and The Mars Volta.

What first got you into music?

I think we all had music in our DNA, but music was also able to give all of us a sense of purpose and an escape from loneliness.

If you could collaborate with a current band or musician who would it be?

I am a big Kim Dracula fan.

If you could play any festival in the world, which would you choose and why?

Chris (guitar) says he’ll have everything he ever wanted once he plays Rock am Ring.

What’s the weirdest gift you have ever received from a fan?

We’ve just debuted, so we haven’t reached that stage yet. But I promise I won’t judge anyone’s gift<3

If you had one message for your fans, what would it be?

It feels a bit uncomfortable for me to say “fans”. I’m sending big hugs to all our listeners, though xoxo

If you could bring one rock star back from the dead, who would it be?

Kurt. We miss you.

What do you enjoy the most about being a musician? And what do you hate?

We get to party hard, make incredible music, and build connections all over the world. Music is spiritual and uniting. The downside is how expensive it is to do productions at the level we are doing them… also industry gatekeeping… sketchy industry business partners…

If you could change one thing about the music industry, what would it be?

Industry gatekeeping, and how easily some business partners can screw you over for no reason.

Name one of your all-time favourite albums?

I would say “Science Fiction” by Brand New.

What’s best? Vinyl, Cassettes, CDs or Downloads?

Given that I never had much money, I would say digital music, but of course, physical releases are top.

What’s the best gig that you have played to date?

As LUTHER it still isn’t that impressive of a number, but in other bands, each member has played in front of more than 1,000 people.

If you weren’t a musician, what else would you be doing?

Three of us in the band have “regular jobs” in marketing, customer service, and design. Two of us do music as our day jobs. Personally, if I didn’t have music to express myself with, I would be very lost. Not a good picture in my brain ahaha.

Which five people would you invite to a dinner party?

Our own band members, it’s been some rough work weeks… It would be nice to catch up with each other.

What’s next for the band?

Debut album, touring, touring, touring, then laughing, and hopefully no crying.

What Social Media / Website links do you use to get your music out to people?

There’s a long-standing food-based debate here in the UK. And we’d like your help. So… A Jaffa cake – is it a cake or a biscuit? Discuss!

Oh damnnn, I would say a biscuit.

Thank you for your time. Is there anything else that you would like to add?

Thank YOU for your time… we hope to see you soon. If you wanna reach out to us: luther.band.management@gmail.com ©
