Hailing from Hamburg, Germany, Lord Of The Lost have played all over the world bringing their unique blend of gothic, industrial, and traditional heavy metal to every festival worth playing in their near 2 decade tenure, including the Eurovision stage in 2023. My personal introduction to the band came in August 2025, as they played the main stage of Bloodstock on a scorching hot Sunday. Though the album kicks off with an ice cold bite in the form of ‘Fall From Grace’! Especially with the spinechilling piano introduction and synths that form the melodic foundation for the song. Close your eyes and you may be transported to the frostbitten wilderness of Scandinavia (or at least that what it does for me). The guitars, bass, and drums lock in to create a solid rhythmic foundation for this to take place. Though take a listen to ‘The Last Star’ for examples of the guitars being anything but support acts but rather the main attraction. Lead vocalist Chris Harms has a consistently solid presence behind the mic with his trademark rich and deep gothic vocals. These elements transfer to many other songs on this album which has produced to a staggeringly high quality.

Lord Of The Lost have built a reputation for being one of the leaders of the industrial metal genre. This reputation is upheld with tracks like ‘Raveyard’, successfully fusing traditional heavy metal and EDM, with the end product being a high octane post-apocalyptic rave! Though the pace slows to a glacial drip during the suitably named ‘Winters Dying Heart’, in a much slower serotonin sapping emotional journey. Though this change of tempo helps with the overall ebb and flow of the album, providing much welcome respite from the relentless high octane energy up until this point.

Guest appearances can be fantastic like the addition of Lena’s fierce growled vocals during ‘Would You Walk With Me From Hell?’. Not the main character by any stretch and not here to replace the magic that Lord Of The Lost already have, but rather adding to what’s already there. Finish Käärijä similarly adds rapping vocals in the latter stages of ‘Raveyard’ in what adds to the spectacle but not taking the spotlight from the core of the band.

Casting my mind back to the blistering hot Sunday (at least by British standards) at Bloodstock Open Air, that served as a less than ideal introduction to the band. Though removing those distractions and having a much deeper listen to “OPVS NOIR Vol. 2” provided a much richer immersive dive into the bands true creative genius and their unique offering to the world of metal
