Is it too early to start thinking about albums of the year? If German thrash metal legends Kreator is the artist in question, then they were always going to be contenders. Regardless of whether there’s a primacy effect of “Krushers of The World” being released in January or not. They’re a band who have achieved things other artists can dream of, playing every festival worth playing and countless generations in the process. Though the band may have to work hard to win some of their fans back after a somewhat mixed previous effort in “Hate Uber Alles” scoring 2/5 in Kerrang!, whereas a score of 4.5/5 paints a more favourable reception whilst demonstrating how divided this was. Will fans and critics be more united in their opinions on “Krushers Of The World” in 2026? Let’s see…
At the time of writing, three lead singles are available to the public. The first of which is“Seven Serpents”, which conveniently opens the album. Here you’ll be met with a slow and dramatic build, creating intrigue, tension, and suspense. Surely this will be in the first song on the set list when they tour this album. Imagine it. The lights go down, you hear only Mille and Sami’s piercing guitars ringing out. Then the drums and bass kick in, and it’s suddenly an unmitigated, no-holds-barred thrash assault on the senses! Mille’s voice sounds fierce as ever, showing no signs of aging! It’s going to be epic. Just like it is on record! The structure of the song works so well, with the epic-sounding choruses acting as one reason to love this song, alongside the verse and the bridge, which are anything but filler and worth the journey in their own right.
Looking for something less melodic, and flirting more with the heavier side of thrash? ‘Satanic Anarchy’ has you covered! The crushing energy in the verses will ensure all the pit monkeys will get moving, and those hiding at the sides will give their necks a good working out, too. Is this the heaviest and fastest song on the album? Maybe. Maybe ‘Barbarians’ should be in the conversation though, as this is just a good ol’ fashioned slobber knocker of a thrash metal track characterised by relentless pace and scorching riffs. Though fans of old school thrash will also be satiated with ‘Blood Of Our Blood’, another bruiser that’s coming straight for your lunch money!
Kreator have continued to evolve their sound over the years, far beyond the early gritty recordings of the “Pleasure To Kill” days. Evidence of this evolution and experimentation can be found in the symphonic elements of ‘Combatants’, which is also a much slower number that helps give the listener a break from the sheer velocity of the album. Crucial in the overall pacing of the album, which is simply excellent. ‘Psychotic Imperator’ and the operatic style backing vocals in the choruses are another example of Kreator flirting with symphonic metal to keep their deeply rooted thrash metal fresh and original.
Speaking of evolution, Kreator are smart to recognise that they’re in the twilight of their career and for heavy music to have a future, they have their part to play in ensuring the next generation is ready. That’s why the inclusion of guest vocals in the form of Britta Gortz (Hiraes) is a stellar move, adding an extra injection of venom into what already is a potent, fierce dose of thrash metal in “Tranenplast”.
Sometimes you just want to slow things down to a glacial drip and have a good ol’ sing a long, and unite thousands of people in an arena to do so together in the process. ‘Loyal To The Grave’ certainly has the capacity to that, in what’s a slower number with that huge epic ballad type feel to it! An excellent way to round off the album!
Whereas the reviews for “Hate Uber Lles” were mixed, there can be no confusion surrounding “Krushers Of The World”. This is a statement. A blistering effort. Kreator are still very much relevant. “Krusher Of The World” will be in many album of the years at the end of 2026.
