EMQs with Makes My Blood Dance

Hi everyone! Welcome to another EMQs interview, this time with New York Disco Metallers, Makes My Blood Dance. Huge thanks to frontman Ev0 for taking part.

What is your name, what do you play and can you tell us a little bit about the history of the band?

I’m Ev0, frontman for Makes My Blood Dance. Jon Kristian and I came together right as the pandemic was taking hold of the world.  We came from different musical backgrounds and frankly did not click musically at the start.  He kept showing up at my shows and we became friends before we became band mates.  Jon’s background is technical metal and mine was more musical theatre and electronics (Rocky Horror meets NIN).  It took us a hot minute but when we made room for each other musically, that was the beginning of MMBD.

How did you come up with your band name?

It’s a piece of a poem by Chris Poindexter.  “When I look at her she makes my blood dance”.  I thought, that’s the feeling we all want to live in, that’s the music I want to make.  I put the band name on a list and gave it to Jon, he picked it straight away.  No discussion.

What Country / Region are you from and what is the Metal / Rock scene like there?

We’re out of NYC and as of this interview have toured all over the US and are currently in the middle of our first UK tour with the Genitorturers.  We’re tracking 100 shows a year right now with no signs of slowing.

What is your latest release?

Our debut album just came out this summer via Metropolis Records.  Search Makes My Blood Dance and find it everywhere.  Make time for our music videos on YouTube – they’re special.

Who have been your greatest influences?

Sobriety, God, each other.  Early on it was Rammstein, then Electric Callboy.  We did 52 shows with Powerman 5000 who have undoubtedly influenced us.

What first got you into music?

Who cares, it’s a magic available to anyone so don’t wait for permission or for someone to show you, live your dream now…not later.

If you could collaborate with a current band or musician who would it be?

I like weird collabs like we did with Macy Gray (check out ‘Lately’ from the album). Maybe Lizzo, Pink, Mickey Avalon (we toured with him). Love to tour with Health, Rob Zombie, Wargasm.

If you could play any festival in the world, which would you choose and why?

Love who loves you back.  We’ve submitted all over, we’ll play the festivals that want us and we’ll kill it.  Northwoods Rock Rally was awesome this year and are good people.  Danny Wimmer, come find us.

What’s the weirdest gift you have ever received from a fan?

We’ve gotten everything from rubber ducky bracelets, to poorly drawn portraits of us that we cherish.  There’s also an abundance of everything else illicit and depraved you can think of, no rules, no judgement.  People want to connect and feel loved and elevated, that’s our gift.

If you had one message for your fans, what would it be?

Don’t wait for anyone to save your life, give you a chance or tell you you’re good enough.  Get to it, you’re ready now.  One last thing, be impeccable with your world and don’t talk sh!t or spread hate.  Love you, let’s roKK.

If you could bring one rock star back from the dead, who would it be?

Freddie Mercury.

What do you enjoy the most about being a musician? And what do you hate?

I love people, I love my band, I love writing and making music with Jon Kristian.  I find haters and people with harsh opinions on anything to be distasteful…they weren’t there and have no idea the truth of things.  As you become a public figure in any industry it’s inevitable.  There seems to be more of that than ever with the freedoms of the internet and not in a good way.

If you could change one thing about the music industry, what would it be?

It will take more than one thing.  All we can do is lead by example, you’ll never be able to change others.

Name one of your all-time favourite albums?

Metallica – Black Album.

What’s best? Vinyl, Cassettes, CDs or Downloads?

Vinyl!!!!!  You get to commit to the artist in the best way next to seeing them live.

What’s the best gig that you have played to date?

Black Sheep in Colorado Springs, CO – USA 2026. Packed room, complete commitment to explicit live energy, dancing and love.  Whole room elevated front to finish.

If you weren’t a musician, what else would you be doing?

I’m doing it, I’m an artist.  I make jackets, I cook, I travel, I love.

Which five people would you invite to a dinner party and what would you cook?

My band and family – we’re having steamed lobster with melted butter, asparagus, baked sweet potatoes and sweet corn on the cob.  Dessert is toffee pudding from UK which we’ll have to order in – they know how to make it!!!!

What’s next for the band?

We’re road testing songs for the next album, getting offers for European tours and festivals for 2027, and talking frequently to agents about possible tours.  We’ve definitely entered the ecosystem, expect to see us playing 100+ dates globally for the foreseeable future.  Goto makesmyblooddance.com and enter your mobile and country and we’ll text you when we come around.
