EMQ’s With PLEO

Hi everyone! Welcome to another EMQs with UK-based Alternative Metal/ Punk/ Grunge band, PLEO. Huge thanks to their Guitarist/ Vocalist, Greg Karageorge, for taking part.

What is your name, what do you play and can you tell us a little bit about the history of the band?

Greg Karageorge, guitar + voice. PLEO was formed after I moved to England to pursue my dreams in music.

How did you come up with your band name?

PLEO is the Greek word for ship / boat and a great metaphor: because we are all on the same boat, we go up and down with the tide. Sometimes the wind is with us and sometimes against us, but we keep moving forward. All in all, it’s about the journey not the destination.

What Country / Region are you from and what is the Metal / Rock scene like there?

I live in Manchester now and there’s a clear 90’s influence.

What is your latest release?

“Helldown” is a visual audio representation of my inner state. One character represents the mind and the other the heart. The two are connected during my performance at the end.

Who have been your greatest influences?

Nirvana and System of a Down, but I’ve been listening to Noise, Thrash / Death and acoustic lately.

What first got you into music?

I’ll never forget the moment I heard Iron Maiden blasting out of the speakers for the first time.

If you could collaborate with a current band or musician who would it be?

Someone completely different, maybe ZillaKami from City Morgue.

If you could play any festival in the world, which would you choose and why?

I am torn between ArcTanGent and 2000 Trees or maybe one in Japan just because I really wanna visit.

What’s the weirdest gift you have ever received from a fan?

I’m not allowed to talk about that…

If you had one message for your fans, what would it be?

PLEO is therapy.

If you could bring one rock star back from the dead, who would it be?

Jimi Hendrix

What do you enjoy the most about being a musician? And what do you hate?

I am doing something I love, I am grateful for every moment, the good and the bad. It’s all part of the journey.

If you could change one thing about the music industry, what would it be?

Streaming royalties.

Name one of your all-time favourite albums?

“Swansong” by Carcass

What’s best? Vinyl, Cassettes, CD’s or Downloads?

I am a minimalist.

What’s the best gig that you have played to date?

The crowd went crazy when we played London for the first time, some people were kicked out for moshing too hard : p  but Athens was a truly unbelievable experience.

If you weren’t a musician, what else would you be doing?

Lying under the ground

Which five people would you invite to a dinner party?

The Dutch girls I met this week.

What’s next for the band?

Releasing “Between the X and the Z” and building up this community of people who want to channel their anger / sadness in a positive way.

What Social Media / Website links do you use to get your music out to people?

www.instagram.com/playPLEO

Time for a very British question now. As an alternative to the humble sandwich, is the correct name for a round piece of bread common in the UK either a Bap, a Barm (or Barm Cake), a Batch, a Bun, a Cob, a Muffin, a Roll or a Tea Cake?

Ha ha ha! I would have to go with bun.

Thank you for your time. Is there anything else that you would like to add?

Thank you for your time too.
